curtins
I need to vent- i dont know what I need to do- I want to go to adoration or something they've been advertising this freshman "social" at my high school for the past week- it sed free dinner meet all the freshman etc etc So everyone was going so I go. I walk in and the rap music is blasting. Before long people move away from the door, the lights go off, and it starts. I thought it was gonna be a social. It turned into the majority of the freshman class having sex with their clothes on. keep in mind I go to a Catholic High school. The chapel is just upstairs from where this was being held. The chapel that contains Jesus Christ. So close yet so far. The preist who is the assistant principal of the school was there the whole time. He was sitting there. Everyone was away from where he was sitting but he was deffinatly there. It was getting real bad. Me my freind John and this kid andrew basically hung out the whole time refusing to partake. John had some moral inclinations but I think it was more that he was nervous shy and timid, although he did make refense to morality. Andrew I think was just pretty much shy. Then the prostitution rig came our way. there was student council members ther - mostily juniors and seniors- theyre the ones who organize it otherwise it was just freshman. So 1 or 2 seniors come over with a junior or senior girl. They're trying to get one of us 3 to dance with her. John refuses I refuse- they get andrew- I look up 2 seconds later and to type what I saw would require me to remember it too much and probably break the comandment on purity. I dont want to describe it. At that point I started praying the Rosary. Later on some guy was getting a lap dance in front of me. I think you guys get the picture. I cant describe how I feel- Im disgusted angered and amazingly saddened. I think I'm gonna email the preist who I mentioned before. idk maybe its shock. I just cant describe it im just at a loss of words. I feel the need to be in the presense of Jesus to know what I'm part of.

philothea
!!!!!!!! Curtins, how horrible! I'm really proud of you for not taking part. Most people would be too tempted, and/or too cowardly. Like it isn't already hard enough to be a teenager nowadays, a Catholic school hosts that? Gaaah.

Philomena
Wow, that is really horrible. There was a priest was there? And he didn't do anything? That is really disturbing.

Proud2BCatholic139
That is rather appauling. But I'm not surprised. I didn't like to go to my school socials my 9-10th grade year. Now I am a senior. I think of prom and I don't know. I don't know, that's not me. I guess I never grew up in that life style. Now, when I'm asked in those types of situations, I always have the urge to go to the Adoration Chapel, or I call up a friend and chill. I love fellowship in the company of my own home then spending money. I don't know, it's weird. Well, I'm sorry that you had to experience that. But, be bold, be strong, be a disciple!!!! If you don't see something you like, squash it! You have the power to make a difference. Pray to the Holy Spirit for all the gifts!!! The Holy Spirit is with you! I hope I helped. son_of_angels
Just remember, what you see may be morally wrong, ergo, you don't have to participate. But here's some thoughts: 1. People, Catholics included, like to have fun, and don't always understand or care enough to avoid possible sin or voluntary imperfection. If you let this surprise you it will lead you to being unable to see past it into those people's hearts, and therefore unable to minister when God wants you to. DONT BE SURPRISED AT SIN. 2. Not everything you see may be sin. Dancing, both for God and man, has been happening for a very, very long time. Sometimes its sexual, at those times its wrong. Sometimes its indiscreet, at those times its best to abstain. Sometimes its just feeling the music and enjoying good company, at those times you should consider whether the reason for abstaining is a real avoidance of sin or society. The latter may be what God is calling you to in order to find him, but it shouldn't instill in you an aversion to people or despair, because, if you are hidden with God in prayer, you owe them and God the most love and affection possible. 3. If you protest, protest in prayer, protest in respectful discussion with your priest, not as an affected, young, holier than you attitude, but have good reason to back good argument. Show from Scripture, speak as having authority from God, people will listen.
toledo_jesus
hm. I'm sorry man. That sounds really rough. The same thing happened to me at my Catholic Youth Convention in Lynchburg, VA. I think I was about your age too. but where you refused to participate, I waded right in. good job. Stay strong.
shelly_freak
Like it isn't already hard enough to be a teenager nowadays, a Catholic school hosts that?
So did my catholic high school. It's not so much the school, they do try to regulate it. These are just a bunch of horny teenagers. It's how any high school dance in the country is like. Either you don't go or you deal. In my opinion ya just gotta have a tougher skin to go to these things and not let them affect you but then again I'm um...how do I put this...not the perfect example of purity (please please please don't take that the wrong way, I'm not THAT bad if that's what you're thinking). I say if you didn't feel comfortable at this don't go to any dances in highschool.
toledo_jesus
how hard would it be for the chaperones to turn on the lights, stop the music and end this sort of behavior? Fair? nope, but that doesn't matter.
CatholicCid
They of course, assume, that is how kid's dance these days and it would be better to do it there then let them go and do whatever outside of supervision... My frosh social was like that... Just hung out with friends
