[quote name='DeeDee' date='Sep 7 2005, 11:25 AM']amo, amas, amat, amamos, amais, amant. Is that right?  That's all I remember from high school Latin. I know a few parts of the mass, and tons of Latin hymns.

Nope...you're mixing Latin and Spanish.

Because I know some French and Spanish I can kind of understand Latin when I hear it spoken or when I read it, however I can't speak it except for a few phrases.

The Latin is fine in the new Missal, it is the translation into the vernacular that is problematic.

When I follow along at Mass, I take my Daily Missal (Scepter Publications) and only use the Latin side.....it is faithful if you follow in Latin...Pauline Mass and all.

I am taking Latin now. However, I am learning stuff that I would not use in a normal conversation such as:

to fluffy air extraction prox

I pee mingo

Why am I learning this language. :seehearspeak:

However, I do get to go to a Novus Ordo Mass this Sunday :clapping:

I'm excited.

I talked to Fr. Mitchell the other day. I told him that I was taking an aweful Latin class and wish I could learn good Latin.. He said that he could teach me if enrolled in seminary (he teaches Latin and Theology at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, NE). I don't think I'm ready for seminary yet, but I'm excited Jenny and him arranged this to take place.

Hehehe...could you take Latin through the Newman Institute? I heard Fr. Matya had set some stuff up so that Newmanites could take classes at St. Greg's...

I know French, so I understand some Latin... generally enough to more or less make out what inscriptions and things on religious art are about, which is all I really use it for in any case.

Isn't it amo, amas, amat, amamus, amantis, amant?

Semper ubi sub ubi!

Or, as my high school latin teacher taught us.. (it's kinda fuzzy, and it might be way off; I don't even remembe what it means...)

Vigilate fortiter
Hostis noster pugnat acriter
Clamate viriliter
Christus Rex! (Hey! Hey! Hey!) x3
....

or

Gaudeamus igitur
Juvenes dum sumus
Gaudeamus igitur
.... erm, forgot the rest.....

That was way back in '94-95 (8th grade) and 95-96 (9th) or so... Jeez, it's already been a decade!

I'm getting OLD!
