Cam42
cam what is the point your getting at? i didn't chastise my father thats not my place.....
Oh but it is.....you are a Catholic, right. You have the responsibility to show that all who attend Mass are being respecful of the Sacred Mystery that is going on at the altar. But my real point is that harshness does not win friends nor does it influence people. And the words that I spoke about your father were out of line. Much like many of your statements that you have been making. How did reading the first part of my post make you feel? Angry, confused? Well, that is what you do to others with your uneducated speak about our Faith. I hope that you take away from this little exchange the understanding that shooting from the hip doesn't work. Compassion does. Love does. But blasting doesn't.
Old_Joe
Fr. Buhman's homily today was about how whenever he sees the Catholic church depicted in the media, most of the time he feels he's watching a scary movie. Then he tied into Catholic Morality not being cold and heartless.
FlyLikeABird
I watched mass on EWTN and Fr. Anthony Mary yammered on for 30 minutes minimum! Man what a homily! I had to do some more work. He was talking for so long... but it was good. Don't ask me to repeat it though, I'm too tired.

It is a Mass that is sung, as opposed to spoken. The distinctions come in what a solemn Mass is, as opposed to a Missa Cantata. A solemn Mass is a high Mass that has two deacons. A Missa Cantata is a high Mass that has no deacon, but is still sung. The vast majority of Masses are Missa Cantata.

An acolyte can be vested in tunic and serve as a "sub deacon." Or there can be two deacons who serve the Mass. No an altar boy cannot serve as a "sub deacon." Redemptionis Sacramentum spells out that there should be no blurring of the lines between the laity and the clergy in the Liturgical action. Since serving as a sub deacon requires wearing a tunic, then it would not be appropriate. Yes a high Mass should have altar boys. Who do you think holds the torches and serves the Mass? There have always been altar boys. A thurifer, boat bearer, crucifer, candle bearers, and torch bearers. so, there should be at least 11 servers at a High Mass.
