I have to tell you a true story about holy water and excorcism salt. Let's just say that my wife's ex-husband (marriage anulled) isn't the nicest person to be around. He gets through life by intimidation of people. Well I had heard that one should spray holy water and excorcism salt around the boundary of one's property to protect it from evil so one night I did this. (didn't want the neighbors asking questions :scratchhead: =:drunk::wacko:==). Well the next day the guy was supposed to drop off the kids and he always comes on the driveway. He had been intimidating my wife when he stopped by to pick them up so I made sure I was out shoveling the driveway (it was winter) the next day when he came by. He was pulling up to the driveway and I put my hand up motioning him to stop. He stopped exactly on the edge. He got out irate with me and we had considerable arguement and he hurled many insults. I told him not to ever come on my property again. I can't claim sainthood though I do think I controlled myself pretty well. He threatened me and was fuming mad. We stood face to face accross the property line and the street. This guy is a fighter, yet somehow I did not feel he was going to do anything. We argued for perhaps 10 minutes but he would not cross the line and did not touch me. He has not been on my propety since, though we did go through court to get some things set down so my wife has to have very little contact with him. And now he's moved to Wyoming so life is good.

Blessings

That is pretty cool. However, in the Collectio it instructs me to mix the salt into the water. It tells you to separately exorcise each element and then place the salt in the water, in the form of a cross.

Still, cool story.

God Bless

That's great, guys -- really, I just may take you up on that, Father -- but back to my question: Would it be considered bad form if I, a complete stranger, walked into a parish and asked for some holy water?

Anyone who knows, feel free to answer this. Thanks.

I can't imagine it would be a problem. I doudt they would even ask if you are Catholic. It blessed water, not the Eucharist. In the two parishes I attend it is available out near the entrance to the Church and I don't ever see anyone monitoring who takes it and who doesn't. Don't sweat it.

[quote name='thedude' date='Sep 2 2005, 11:38 AM']Hey when's the best time to get a priest to bless a St. Benedict Crucifix?

I wouldn't worry about getting Holy Water on demand. Usually if you know where the "main stash" is you can go and get some without even asking. At least we can in my diocese.

*edit* Oh yes and the best time to bless a Benedictine cross or crucifix? I think on the feast of Benedict would be pretty good.
