Gas prices

It's 3.19 here and you have no idea how mad that makes me. I want to run around and scream and cry and vandalize the gas pumps. Actually maybe I won't go that far....

Why the anger? It's basic supply and demand. I remember when gas was $0.37 a gallon for full service (the attendant came out and pumped your gas, cleaned your windows, checked your oil, and filled your tires). Hardly anybody drove a Japanese car because nobody wanted them. Good gas mileage was over 10mpg.

Then OPEC kicked in and we had rising gas prices.

American car manufacturers were extremely slow in responding to market demands for gas economy. They didn't build many small, fuel efficient cars. That opened the market up for Toyota and Datsun (Nissan). Hondas were a joke.

Now look. Back then you couldn't imagine a Toyota 'Avalon'. Japanese cars were basic, sound, and economical. AC, radio, cloth seats, power windows, were LUXURIES! Now they are expected as a minimum, and we're back to buying Expeditions, Explorers, and Escalades. Heck, even a KIA is a Cadillac compared to the 80's.

Americans are spoiled brats with a rocking economy and we think were going to hell in a handbasket. Do a little research and compare our unemployment rate and productivity per capita compared to the rest of the world. We're mega-giants when you consider how big our population is and how rich we are.
Anyone living in the Atlanta area? I heard that due to price gouging and such, gas has been almost $6.00! The govenor or someone had to institute a law to prevent unnecessary price gouging and greed.
I do. It hit $6 a gallon one day this week. A rumor started that we only had a day or two of gasoline left and wouldn't be getting more for awhile. It didn't help that the story was on the Drudge Report. However, the Governor placed a freeze on gas prices at the retail level and promised to prosecute anyone who was gouging their customers. A hotline was set up to report the dishonest (nicest word possible) retailers. By the next morning they were back down to around $3 a gallon.

Friday it cost me $41 to fill up my Toyota!
[snip]Finally, the reason why Canada pays so much for gas even though it exports it is quite simple. If you were selling oil and Americans would buy it at $60 a barrel, would you sell it in Canada for $50? Of course not. [snip]

Becasue the frist 12$ per barrel that pays the americans for the oil goes to the Canadien goverment in taxes. You also have a loss of 3$ per barrel for shipping cost of the oil. Thus the company will make more profit selling at home, but the goverment 'adjusts' the game so that the companies must export certain quota of oil to the US.

No, it's no simple at all, I guarantee you. The world economics and stability turn entirely around the industrial machinef and the oil that keeps it going.

Steady at 1.37$ per litre here, that's 5.18$ per gallon!
Fun!!!
