the_rev
Here is my letter, Recently on the World Over Live featured on EWTN, Dr. William Donohue of the Catholic League was featured as the guest. It was brought to my attention from a question of a viewer about Fr. Richard McBrien, stating that he was hired as a consultant for the anti-Catholic movie, The Davinci Code. It seems whenever a media outlet or a politician needs a priest so they can parade around Catholicism, Fr. McBrien is always there. He's a dissenter and known not to agree with everything that our late Holy Father, Pope John Paul the Second taught, and I'm sure he won't be agreeing with Pope Benedict in the near future. CatholicCulture.com states “In 1981, the first edition of McBrien's book Catholicismwas published. Almost immediately the doctrinal committee of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops pointed out serious problems with it and asked him to make revisions. When those revisions had not been made by the time of the third edition, the conference finally released a statement indicating that the work was not a reliable guide to Catholic teaching and should not be used in theological instruction.” My question now after researching this priest, is why in the world does The Compass feature such writings of a dissenting priest? picchick
Is the Da Vinci Code bad if taken as fiction? Our Pastor said that reading the book is not bad but do not take it as the teaching of the Church. It is fictional and should be read as that.
The problem however is that the co-producer of the movie said that it was anti-catholic. Refreence: New York Times However they have said they are not going to put a disclaimer saying it's fiction, so in the Catholic League, the goal is to harm at them until they do put it in, they we'd all be hapy. EcceNovaFacioOmni
that could be an interesting letter campaign - hes in about 20 different papers?//???
His syndication is shrinking by the month. It used to be bigger. He was featured in Crisis Magazine's last e-letter because he is speaking at Call to Action. BTW, while I was at ND I took a poster for one of McBrien's lectures (after the fact). He most certainly has some authority over the diocesean paper.

Pio Nono
JMJ 9/1 - Twenty-second Thursday Let's all remember, though, that we're talking about Fr. Richard P. McBrien - there's a phenomenal theologian out there right now whose name is Fr. Richard M. McBrien...thought I'd submit that for clarification.
