willguy
Hey all, Ok, so Ive got my Psych exam on Jan 5th at 9:00am and my behavioral assessment (sp) at at 9:00am on the 9th of January. So, if ya'll could please offer me some prayers on those mornings (or, if you're not going to be up that early, the night before). I don't know why I wouldn't pass these, but I'm still a bit nervous, and these are probably the biggest step left in my application ('cept my interview). IrishG8s
The Devil better look out that's all I got to say. You know I have to say kudos for all of you going out to be priest. Their is a definate cleansing being done in the Catholic Church and Were the one going to bring back the faith. To tell a little back about my back ground. I have always felt the priesthood calling me. As I slowy grew up many people would tell me Joe you'd be an awsome priest. I finally got tired of it. I built a wall up between me and God and blocked those callings. So I grew up in the world and the one reason I didn't want to become a priest was I wanted to have sex. I will be straight out and honest. That is what I wanted to do all in the bounds of marriage and have kids and all. But as it was God slowly began to whisper where the mortar was breaking off in the wall I built. I have always had a love for children and would absouluty go crazy in a small child around started to cry. I would break down right there with and start to get teary eyed. But I also had a love for people and did everything possible to help them out. But most of all I began to have a huge devotion the most beautifull women in the world and that of course would be OUR Lady. What a women. So finally after 19 years I decided to think about it. It took me about a month over this last christmas and I really thought about my life. Little did I know that Our Lady had taken a huge sledge hammer and compleatly broke my wall. I finally relized that the pleasures of this world would not get me into the next. I wanted to get to heaven so bad and finally learned that the only way to get there was to start loving God the way I should. But that still left the priest situation. So I decided to start going to mass everymorning. Still am but the homily was always the same. WE need more priest. So I decided to surrender my life to God. I told him take me I'm yours I just need your help to get there. Since then my life has changed. I started saying morning and evening prayers, going to mass everyday, and said my rosary at least 2 every day. I never did these things before and barely like to pray. Now do it as much as I can. He eaven calmed that sexual appetite down. Now I feel ready to become God's worker. I wanted to become a dominincan beacuase I always wanted to teach High School Relegion. But I think I am going to become a Diocesen priest to get the pews packed with teens. spread the word of God LIke Fire and bring back all those Christian traditions. I want to also live my life after the saints and hope to have a heart they had God. So all of you God bless and keep up the prayers, I pray for all of you everyday. -ID-

Tom
Thank you for sharing the story of your vocation. It's very inspiring to hear of other people's journeys. I never cease to wonder at the different paths people have followed to enter the Seminary. You'll be very much in my prayers as you go through the application process. I wouldn't worry too much about the psychological assessment - I think it's intended to be used as a tool for growth rather than as a pass/fail thing. It was great for me to be able to go through and explore myself and some of my motivations with Sr Judith, one of the psychotherapists on our staff. I think the way it's done varies between psychologists. I did the MMPI and MCMI tests, which involve answering yes/no to hundreds of statements ranging from "I have better table manners when I eat out than when I'm at home" to "I am posessed by evil spirits" (secret tip: don't answer yes to this one if you want to be accepted ). The interview with the psychologist broadly covered four areas: social history, spiritual history, sexual history and addictions and health issues. Some of the questions I was asked in each of these areas might give you an idea of what it's like: "Do you have any memories of the events around your brother's birth?" "Did you have any problems/doubts about the Church as a teenager?" "Was your relationship with Lucy a sexual one?" "Have you ever smoked anything other than cigarettes?" I found the process quite intrusive at times - I didn't find it easy to have to share so much with a complete stranger, but overall, it was a good experience, and I cam out as surprisingly balanced! Hope this helps.
willguy
Vocation update: I've now been accepted to the college where our seminary sends students for classes (we live at the seminary, do formation at the seminary, but the college seminary students actually take classes at a near-by Jesuit college). That means that the only thing left now is for my papers to be reviewed and a interview. I'm so excited about how near it finally is.

But yea I know it's just scary though I just wanted to know what I was in for. Anyway I got God beside so all things are possible! -ID-
willguy
Hey what goes on in those exams would you mind telling us some of the questions they ask especially in the psycological ones. Thanks! -ID- That's classified information Irish. I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you (which means I'd have to try and figure out who you really are and where you live and all that jazz and I don't want to go through that much trouble). :D J/K. Anyways, I can't guarantee how your diocese does it, but mine requires two tests, a psychological exam and a behavioral assesment. Psych exam: actually a combination of psych exam and intelligence test (if you've ever taken like the WISC III or something like that, its similar). Putting blocks in a pattern, putting these pictures in a sequence, ink blot test, stuff like that. At one point, they show you these depressing pictures and you're supposed to tell them what happened, how the people feel, and what they're going to do about it. I had to fill out like 2 personality survey things too. Behavioral Assesment: A two hour interview where they ask about every aspect of your life. Your parents, your schooling, your spiritual life, etc. Don't sweat 'em Irish, they aren't that bad.
IrishG8s
Do they stick you with any needles. I'd do it for God but I HATE NEEDLES There worse than Cockraoches. Needles are just grrrrrrrrrrrrrr *shiver* I really don't like them but hey just think of what christ went through and if That has to be done I hold out my arm and my rosary in the other hand. Thanks for the encouragement -ID-
willguy
No, no needles, at least not for the exams (now, if you have to get a TB test like I did, then there are needles).
