Totus Tuus
Personally I don't think betrothal is a bad idea. Considering the fact that love is a choice of the will, and not a feeling, and that the requirement for sacramental marriage is the intention to FIRST: bring forth children, and second: offer mutual service as a means to grow in holiness, then it's completely legit in most circumstances. But I really think it would be difficult to reincarnate the old practice, and in all honesty, I think I would go crazy if my parents chose my husband. (Luckily, I'm already engaged to the King of Love)
Theologian in Training
Not only does this enhace the relationship as a whole, and tests the mettle of that relationship, to be sure, it also helps the couple understand what it is they are undertaking. I am about to do a convalidation this Saturday, and it is clear that though they are Catholic they are not the most avid of believers. In fact, they were civilly married before the Church was even thought about....the Church, unfortunately, has become the last step in their journey to married life. Sorry, venting a bit. Good idea though. God Bless

i wish there were more ladies around who wouldnt look at this idea and immediately laugh and say "are you kidding?" *double sigh burger with coagulated milk* its still hard for me to believe good girls like those on phatmass even exist. Laudate_Dominum
Ok, I now know everything needed to make this betrothal thing happen. (and to finish my booklet) Now I just need to cut a deal with some mainstream pre-cana people and have the booklet pushed on engaged couples. :
