Laudate_Dominum
what about having your engagement blessed?
It's not the same. Betrothal is more solemn and has a different canonical status. And I just love the sound of the word. I want to have the betrothal ceremony and everything.

Meyers is cool with it. I'm going to be actively promoting betrothal and it would be good to have a priest who I could refer my engaged friends to. Laudate_Dominum
whats a betrothal?
It is a type of engagement. The difference is that a standard engagement is an intention to marry, whereas a betrothal is a solemn promise, before the Church, and blessed by the Church. I think that it is fine to be engaged for six months and then get married, but I think if an engaged couple has to wait for a year or two before they can marry (maybe for practical reasons or something), they ought to consider getting betrothed.
