Thy Geekdom Come
I just read this from beginning to end (though not the entire description of the actual ceremony - only L_D's summary of it) and I have to say, this thread just exudes awesomeness! let_go_let_God
If I remember correctly this is also a great cerimony for people who are engaged but will be getting married at a much later date in the future, ie over a year. God bless- LGLG
photosynthesis
This is all so exciting! Once my boyfriend gets the $$$ to buy me a ring, we are going to get engaged too. He's talked to the pastor at our indult Tridentine parish and while he's never performed a betrothal ceremony before, he is really interested in learning more about it. We're not sure how to go about this, though... We really want a nice betrothal ceremony, with our fellow parishioners & Catholic friends present. However, neither of us come from particularly orthodox families, and so we doubt they'd really understand or appreciate the beauty of the betrothal. They'd just gawk at us and talk about how weird we are. Of course we're going to include them in the wedding and all the festivities, but the idea of having EVERYONE present at the betrothal seems kind of weird. However, if we open it up to our friends, our relatives might feel snubbed if they don't get to go to the betrothal ceremony. It would be one thing if they lived in another state, but I live with my mom so it would be weird not to include her.

Totus Tuus
I kinda want to do the betrothal thing, but don't know how to go about it. If I could, I'd do it on December 8th.
That was my monastic entrance day I would love to do ours that day (I always try to do something special on 12/8) but we want to do it on the one year anniversary of our engagement, which will be August 10, St. Lawrence (my patron). I think it's fitting to do it on a martyr's feast day, since dying for someone (like St. Lawrence did) is such a high expression of love for them. It reminds me that going into marriage will involve the cross... a lot... Aaaanyway, Raphael, did you ever end up having a betrothal?
