Socrates
Since you are correct that the Church has never defined voting as a mortal sin, I don't think that it is fair accuse each other of such because of our political choices, which was the point I was originally trying to make.
I didn't accuse you of anything. I was just clarifying what the Church actually said regarding such matters. I'm a conservative Republican, but (speaking hypothetically here) if it came down to a race between a "conservative" politician who supported abortion, and a pro-life liberal Democrat, I'd be morally obliged to vote for the Democrat. It works both ways - the life issues should trump political loyalties.

Quietfire
the Church has not said that it is a mortal sin to vote for someone. Some bishops have said that you may vote for a pro-choice candidate as long as you are not voting for them just because you support their pro-choice position.
CF said... Voting "off". Not voting for. Voting off is the practice of....well, choosing "None of the above". You choose a candidate that has NO chance of winning. Your still voting, but its considered voting off. Pax
p0lar_bear
It's not even an election year!! Can we give the whole "if you vote for so-and-so you are in mortal sin" discussion a rest for a couple of years?!

SarahB
ONLY if she were running against HIllary - but I think in that case I very well might vote for whoever the Constitution Party candidate is.
That's probably what I'll end up doing, since I'm a member of the Constitution Party. It depends, though. If Jeb Bush or Rick Santorum ran I'd probably end up voting for them. But if it's any of the other prospects as of right now, it's the Constitution Party's canidate for me.
