Glasses can be vain too. I have a very slight vision problem -- so slight that the eye doctor said it was strictly my call as to whether or not to get glasses. I chose to get glasses because I thought they might help me look more distinguished. But now I almost never wear them. Looks like I wasted my money!

well--contacts make you look basically what you'd look like without glasses. glasses are an addition to your face...i don't know, i don't make sense. i don't think it's vanity though.

however...the colored contacts i think are vanity. those are purely for appearance and not at all necessary and are sometimes even detrimental to your vision. i know a lot of girls who wear them and it's pretty enough, sure, but i'm happy with the eye color i was born with. being asian, i have small brown eyes--but if i can still see out of them, i'm fine. i don't need surgery to make my eyes bigger, nor do i need bits of colored plastic to give myself green eyes when i was born with brown.

but i digress. sometimes it's more convenient or comfortable. personally, my eyes tend to get very dry when i wear contacts, so it's actually somewhat painful to wear them sometimes. i usually only wear them when i have to, like for performances or something. i actually like how i look in glasses better, but these days my glasses have gone crooked and i can't put them right again. i might start wearing contacts more regularly cuz of that, but who knows...i don't think it's vanity, not really.
