franciscanheart
I'm looking for more books or short writings to add to my list. I'd like a variety from deep thought-provoking books to easy reads for when I'm having a day like today. A friend recently suggested four authors: Julian of Norwich, St. Teresa of Avila, Thomas More, and Aristotle. If anyone has any other suggestions I would love them. Thanks in advance. philothea
Thomas Merton is my favorite for an easy read that leads to deep thoughts. Start with New Seeds of Contemplation for reflections, or The Seven Story Mountain for his autobiography.
mariology21
I'm reading St. Catherine of Sienna's "Dialogue" and find it to be an easy read and deep thinking too (verrrrrrrrrrrry deep thinking!!!) I find myself reading only a few paragraphs and then having to put it down to mull over the thoughts!! But like I said, I'm finding it very easy to understand....just have to digest it! I also really like Thomas a Kempis "Imitation of Christ." That's an easy read with deep thinking too!! ~Jen

StColette
Anything by St. Louis de Montfort Dark Night of the Soul and The Living Flame of Love by St. John of the Cross The Way of Perfection by St. Teresa of Avila
Fides_et_Ratio
St. John of the Cross. Pope John Paul II (/the Great). Christoph Schonborn (really cool book: "Loving the Church") ...steer clear of some of Thomas Merton's later works-- he got a little too far into eastern (i.e., "zen") mysticism. phatcatholic
i like chesterton for his wit. its good to read about theological topics and laugh at the same time : c.s. lewis is also great when it comes to profound writing that is easy to read and understand. "mere christianity" is a must. "screwtape letters" was quite enjoyable. an eye-opener too!

Nathan
I'm reading a lot of Pope Benedict (as Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger) these days. God and the World: An Interview with Peter Seewald, from Ignatius Press, is an easy-yet-deep read.

ForHimAlone
Story of a Soul by Saint Therese may look simple, but it really has a lot of dephth and a profound quality. It's a very easy read- Just make sure you take time to think about what she's saying. Otherwise, St. Teresa of Avila is one of my favorites. Interior Castle is amazing! Also, Saint Faustina's Diary: Divine Mercy In My Soul is very good- everything Jesus says is always pretty deep!
