zabbazooey
Okay, I know she's only eleven, and I'm seventeen, but I did some apologetics the other day! I'm not even very good at it, but when we were watching Simpsons, there was one when Bart went to a Catholic school and wanted to convert to Catholicism. So I got asked very, very basic questions like "What is Transubstantion? How can that REALLY happen?" "Confession doesn't really absolve you from sin, come on!" "Why do you worship Mary?" "What is a nun?" "Why do you have to go to confession before receiving Communion?" "Why can't non-Catholics go to confession and be absolved?" It was GREAT! I got to fill her in on all the insider know how (hehe) AND got to defend my faith at the same time! I love apologetics! I want to start doing more, where do I begin?! I'm going to start being around here more, but please help me out, because I'm a beginner!

zabbazooey
I think you can, I'm getting some help from the Catholic Defense Directory....... it just feels great when you've steered a non-believer in the right direction...

franciscanheart
thats awesome. im a beginner too and ive been doing it for a year. glad to see you around. i should really make the effort to come in here like i used to too. youve inspired me. wooo. btw- as for where to start... pick something you are already interested in or dont know much about but would like to. i personally am interested in the homosexual movement and everything prolife. i started out writing a tract about same sex marriages and relations then moved to abortion. the catholic defense directory is great. if you pick something and go in there with that in mind there will be more reading there than you can imagine! so start small and work your way up! phatcatholic
i'm glad ur here zabba! : as you are learning, make sure you pray a lot too, that the Holy Spirit will lead you where he would like you to go and that he will show you the things you need to know. whenever u feel like making that leap of faith, u can join the FBC and begin practicing your apologetics : pax christi, phatcatholic
thessalonian
Read lots of books. Keating, Hahn, Curie, Akin, and others. Pray, as phat said, live your faith and be an example is the next biggest thing. But also don't just read apologetics. Study the Catechism. Read the scriptures daily. In fact I recommend reading the whole bible all the way through over a year or so, so that you have a birds eye view of it all. Jeff Cavins Great Adventure Bible Series is also highly recommended. It takes you through a chrononolgy of the Bible events as opposed to starting at pg. 1. Also read the lives of the saints. And Debate will help sharpen your skills. Always remember as spoken in proverbs 19, The one who speaks first seems right, until his view is examined. I have always given the Church and God a chance to explaine something that confused me and caused doudt. I've never been disapointed in this policy. StColette
My best advice. Pray and pick one topic the you really like and learn as much about it as you can. And then grow from there. God Bless, Jen
