Dude...

I am the dumpster diving MASTER!!!

I've been dumpster diving since I was a kid. I've gotten SO much stuff, from Braum's ice cream, to brand new shoes, to magazines, to tons of books, rare books, vinyl records, donuts, radios, other cool electrical gadgets, etc, etc, etc.

As kids, me and my brother were mall rats because my mom was a hair stylist and brought us with her to work instead of paying for a sitter. Dumpster diving was the BEST part of going. Radio Shack, the bookstores, sporting good stores... man, you wouldn't believe the stuff they throw away!

Nowadays, dumpster diving is becoming a lost art, as all the major stores now have the "compacter" dumpsters, where you can't get into them. :(

while I can see why people do it, the dangers of it is very much a reality! glass, sharp objects, needles discarded by junkies...watch yourself!

If you live in a college town, it can be quite rewarding. My brother lived in Lawrence, KS near the University of Kansas...people would buy all new stuff for an apartment, then toss it a year or two later when they moved....he got a really nice couch that way...

I know there was a supreme court decision that declared people's trash public property... I don't see how dumpsters are any different

I didn't know about the Supreme Court decision, but when I tryed to throw something in a dumpster outside of a Blockbuster they called the police because they thought that I was trying to take their trash. They police came too, but they couldn't stop laughing, I think they must get alot of calls about dumpster diving.
