How do you dispose of a Holy Bible? We were helping clean out a house and came across an old bible. They were going to pitch it in the dumpster and I recued it. I don't need it ,its all wet and sorry looking but I just couldn't toss it out.

Any clues?

If it's blessed, it needs to be burned or buried.

If not, then you can just throw it out.

Since you probably dont' know if it's been blessed or not, you should probably just bury or burn it, just in case...

When I was a student at Steubenville, my Bible was in awful condition, so somebody on the chapel staff offered to burn it for me, since that's kind of hard to do when you are a college student.

Yeah, burn it. Holy books need to be burned or buried, even liturgical books. The Greek Orthodox are best at this - they burn or bury everything.

This makes me sad, because I found an old Bible from when I was a lot younger, and I cut a huge hole in it and made it into a "secret box" :(

Maybe i should have been reading it instead.

I might keep the bigger bible, its drying out nicely over the pilot light in the oven. Its the large Catholic CCD edition from 1961, the one with all pictures and prayers in it. The other is a Jerusalem Bible from 1966.

Just a note on the blessed Bible thing...

Our parish priest won't bless Bibles because he says that they are already sacred because it is the Word of God and it doesn't get more sacred than that.

So, if you think this way, I would never ever throw out a Bible. I would treat every Bible as sacred and burn or bury it if you have to get rid of it.

Just my 2 cents.

Me, three!

I'd burn it and say some prayers like Theoketos suggested.
