With the help of my uncle, I am building a Media Center computer. XP was prolly the best thing M$ could have done, and I seem to find XP Media Center pretty stable. Although, I don't know about 2005 yet, until I get a chance to try it out.

Old Joe, you know my uncle and I just updated my mom's old HP, with a $40.00 motherboard and a $25 power supply. I had a P4 from my now dead Gateway Media Center and 512 RAM from the same comp. The thing is much faster. If you could do that I would recommend it, you can build your own these days for less than the store.

Just my .02

God Bless

Not Zone Alarm, Sygate.

I went out and bought XP Pro for $5.34 from the UNL computer store. I need to get a new sound card and a new video card, though.

no, I wouldn't say that.

My computer here is a nice conglomerate of a Gateway with Pentium 3 processor, a Samsung monitor, and an Epson color 900 printer. They were all made for Windows 95 or NT. I have XP on it and it works great.

Only 3 problems:
It'll need a bigger hard drive eventually.
no paper for the printer.
Pain in the butt to find ink for that printer.

(props to my brother, the computer genius of the family.)

I admit, one of my current wishes is to build my own computer, and that's so that I can controp what OS I have on it. I WANT LINUX. I think Leny (the linux penguin) is cute. What do you think?

Of course.... http://majorgeeks.com/Sygate_Personal_Fire...Free_d3356.html

Also, I recommend this site for all your computer needs. They have everything, from spyware removers to AVP's to firewalls, the list is endless.

BTW, I have tested a lot of the free firewalls there and other places and found Sygate to work the best, catch the most, and be the most vigilant of the firewalls I tested. I used to use Kerio, but ran into too many problems with it and back years ago during my "hacking" days I saw way too many people finding ways to exploit ZA within minutes if not seconds. So, hands down, I highly recommend Sygate. It is what I give people when they ask me to secure their computer. (Being a former hacker does have its benefits :)

God Bless

Use Avast from that site I recommended to Cmom. The site is chock full of free stuff which works great.

I highly recommend Avast. You have to register it, for some odd reason, but it is free, and updates itself quite often.

On a semi-related note, I just picked up an Asus A8N-SLI Premium Motherboard from a computer show. Got a really good deal on it....let the building begin!

God Bless
