I hate computers!

Okay, so I got this computer from my sister when she got a new one. She gave me everything including her old printer. anyhoo, the computer wasn't top of the line, but I didn't care. being a college student, I considered myself lucky to have one. Then I started having problems with it. Windows Me was installed on it, which is about the most unstable operating system ever put out by microsoft. So I had problems with it crashing all the time. However, since my sister bought it straight from the maunfacturer it came with a system recovery CD. Did I mention that when you use it, your entire system gets formatted and you lose every program, assignment, game, etc. that you ever installed or saved on it and restores the computer to its factory settings?

Afterwards, it worked fine for awhile, but then it crashed again. Much harder this time. In fact it crashed so hard that the thing forgot it had harddrives. whenever I'd try to boot it up, it'd get stuck cause it couldn't read the harddrives. So I had my dad take it in, and he had Windows 98 installed on it. Yeah, it's older, but it's more stable than it's successor. Everything was working fine. My main problem was finding software and drivers for everything, but I eventually found them.

Then I tried to burn a CD of French Nun's singing chant that a friend gave me. That's when I found out that I couldn't burn CD's at all. Not only that, but my computer didn't even recognize the CD burner as a CD burner. So apparently, I had missed something. <_< Not only that, I couldn't find a valid driver for the CD burner. Well, I looked inside the computer to make sure I was looking for drivers for the right CD burner. Next when I closed the computer up, it no longer recognized the CD drives. I wasn't sure if I had done anything wrong inside. I checked the software and nothing could explain it. So, I went back to those system recovery discs and lost everything that I had saved in the past few months. not to mention that I was reinstalling Windows Me. I still had the same problem. nuts. I went back inside and discovered that one of the cables had been installed upside down. So, now I can't reinstall windows 98 again, not to mention that I've lost pretty much everything anyway. This has been really frustrating. So right now I'm trying to update and reinstall everything, which means I'm going to be up for awhile. anyone care to join me?

Makes me want to:

stupid computer---> :bash: <---me

I'm not sure I can install XP on this computer. It might be too old. If not, I can see about getting an update CD for Win 98.

Well, it came on our new computers. If they'd been older machines we'd probably not have updated. (We got newer computers because Matt works online and needs reliable machines for accessing the servers, and since he works from home they can be used as a tax write off.)

And popups!! :wall:

We have a "popup blocker" that in my opinion attracts more popups! :huh:

I hear Mozilla firefox cannot receive any or very few popups because most popups are designed for Internet explorer.
