Carrie
I wonder if the Holy Father has something to say on the topic?
I might be able to pull up some quotes. Those should surely answer your questions. :
cmotherofpirl
Simply go to the search engine and type Harry Potter. We are NOT going thru all that again.
mxkncathlcgrl
I think you should read it... it's only a book and I'm hoping since you're 23 reading a book is not going to change your mind on faith and religion, or at least I hope not. I like to read the books I've read and own them all and I believe in Catholicism just as much if not more today than I did when I first started reading the books. As long as you keep in your mind that it's only fictitious I don't see the harm.... and no I would not be ashamed if Jesus walked up and saw me reading a Harry Potter book

St. Catherine
I would read them. I just read the first 5 in the past two weeks for the first time. I liked them, they are easy to read and they kept me interested. I started reading them just to see how much different than they were from the movies. SheepAmongWolves
If read with the right attitude the books in themselves are fine. However, they're only ok if you are a relatively happy and content person. Kids who are struggling with depression can see the books as an escape from the reality that is their life (whether at home or at school). Fed on that they want to learn about witchcraft in order to do something to change their situation in life. They want to be Harry Potter, everything is horrible but then we find out that with magic everything can become wonderful. The books have a good message of good vs. evil, but they are dangerous in certain situations.
Paladin D
Don't read'em, pick up a Star Wars: New Jedi Order novel instead, the series I heard is fantastic. I'll have to start buying the books (they just completed the series).
