White Knight
Hello. A Topic that seems to be very important to the Faith, prehaps some of the most important topics to the Faith. Catholic or Protestant. Does the Church have any evidence to prove certian events of the Bible, like does it have location possibilities? of where Jesus was Cruicfied? and where he Ascended on into Heaven? Ya know evidence to actually Prove this as 100% Fact. Does the Catholic Church have any known records that explain these events, that may not be in the Bible? Thanks for the Information and Help, reguardless of the answer. White Knight. God Bless, Pax Christi.
Laudate_Dominum
There are specific sites in the holy land that have been venerated as the locations of various events in Christ's life. The recognition of these sites goes back to the early Church. You will not find extra-biblical "proof" for many events in Christ's life, such as the resurrection, and it would not be proper if such things were proven in a strict sense because they are articles of faith. The testimony of the Holy Apostles and God's work in the soul are the basis of this knowledge. Encountering the Risen and Glorified Christ in union with our soul brings our faith to maturity and concretization. As far as non-Christian/extra-biblical references to events in the life of Christ I can do a bit of name dropping: Pliny Josephus Tacitus The Babylonian Talmud Suetonius Lucian Mara Bar-Serapion Julius Africanus, Thallus, and Phlegon Hegesippus An inscription in the ruins of Marquofiae from 68AD Generally you will just find very short references. Some of these sources are hostile to Christianity. For example the Babylongian Talmud makes it a point to blaspheme Christ at every opportunity (it was written by Pharisees afterall). I hope this helps. God bless you.
