Has your church ever been vandalized?

Ash Wednesday

Someone went on some sort of joy ride taking a wheelchair usually stored in the confessional and took with themselves a "souvenir" -- the cross above the tabernacle. :(

The priest told the parish to pray for the person that did this. The priest opted not to dust for fingerprints since the powder would contaminate the tabernacle.

So has your parish ever been vandalized?

There was a crazy guy who used to come in and steal the monstrance from the Adoration chapel. He had this psychotic idea that is was a relic from his ancestors that the Church stole. Someone would have to go to his mom's house and get it back. He never did anything bad to it or anything, it was just weird.
Now the adoration chapel is locked most of the time which kind of stinks since I don't have a key.

Isaiah41:13

Yep. Last summer, some guy broke into 5 or 6 churches in my town. From St. Charles (my church), he stole candles and a small statue of St. Charles Borromeo that is in the gathering place. When they found it, he had writted all over it. It was horrible. From other churches (not Catholic) he stole large crosses and some candles.

and vandalism #2.
This past Christmas season some guy stole baby Jesus and 2 of the 3 wise men from the manger in front of the church. He did this at 2 other area Catholic churches and we never found them. It was on Christmas day.

We've had people try and steal the Blessed Sacrament, sometimes during Mass. Needless to say they were stopped before they left the Church.

Also, there was a guy who used to hang around the Newman Center who I think may have been schizophrenic, possibly induced with illegal drugs. I was in line for confession, and he was in line a few people behind me when I heard him say something like, "Maybe if they keep praying to that statue, she'll hear them." The congregation was praying the rosary at the time. then after confession I was sitting in the pew, when he walked up the center aisle rang the bells used for the liturgy and walked out a side door saying, "Hallelujah!" very loudly. Father told us to pray for him.
