More On My Article...

Good Friday

Recommended Posts

I decided -- before reading anyone but BLAZer's advice -- that I would submit my article to Envoy, Crisis Magazine, Fr. Groeschel, and anyone else who will take it. You might be wondering why.

It happened that I went to Mass this evening, because we had a parish council meeting and I'm on the parish council. We usually have a Mass prior to the meeting. Well, it turned out that I was the only one at the pre-meeting Mass, but Father still went ahead and had Mass. I have to say that it was an unusual experience, and it was definitely a test of my "Mass skills." Would I remember all the right responses, and would I kneel, sit, stand at the right times? I did pretty well. But anyway, that's not the point (at least, not quite).

The Gospel for today is Luke 19:11-28, the parable of the ten coins. It's basically about the Master giving His servants gold coins, and one of the servants getting ten more coins, the second getting five more, but the third having put the coin away and not getting anymore because he was afraid of the consequences. The Master instructed them to take the coin from him and give it to the one with ten coins...

Needless to say, this spoke to me about this issue. I'm afraid to do anything with the gift God has given me (writing), and I'm afraid because of the potential consequences (my mom's anger and/or my persecution). But God gave me this gift, and I have to make something more come from it. So I decided at Mass that I was going to submit the article to magazines and what not.

But y'all's advice has been very helpful and encouraging.

On the subject of the pseudonym -- Cheryl's right, it will never work at this point. I used my real name at CatholiCity. Besides, I shouldn't be afraid of the consequences. I shouldn't hide like I'm ashamed of what I wrote in the article or afraid of the backlash -- even from my own mother. Ven. Charles de Foucald (I have no idea who he is, honestly) said: "One of the things we absolutely owe our Lord is never to be afraid." I don't know who he is, but he's right about that! And St. Therese said: "I do not fear any cross because I know that when a cross comes to me; You, Jesus, always come too."

So I will submit the article.

Couragio!

That's the brave spirit!

Yes, your words, and your choices have been guided by God. And if you can resist your temptations, you encourage others to do the same.

In all honesty, when I came on phatmass, I was just a bit surprised to read some people speaking of their temptations against purity, in all the various forms. I honestly cannot tell you now who confessed what! The message was clear, most (if not all) peeps are tempted by the flesh, but we build up the Body of Christ when we counsel and encourage one another to Keep the Faith and strive to maintain a virtuous life.

Expect that in the real world (outside phatmass) some will be angered by your message. Remember what Jesus said, they hated Him before they hated you.

*Dr. Laura voice* Now go do the right thing!

So proud of you...

I wanted to let y'all know that besides still being linked to on CatholiCity, my article will be published on Catholic Exchange. It's also under review by Onerock. Crisis Magazine doesn't have any room for new articles right now, but I'll submit it to them later. Envoy only takes articles not published elsewhere, so that's out.

But I'm really excited that my article is going to be published on Catholic Exchange and possibly on Onerock!

Also, for those of you who have been following this story, I was finally able to go to Confession today.

I don't know if Andrew Sullivan read the article or not, but I know he hasn't responded to it in any way so far. I don't really care if he responds in writing, my hope is that he'll respond in faith.

But there's no indication so far whether or not he's even read it, and he may not have. If he's anything like I used to be (and I suspect he is), he's not willing to read anything that might plant a seed of doubt in his mind about his lifestyle. When I was the way he is, several people here at PM tried to get me to read different things and I would refuse, and I acknowledge now that it was because I was afraid it would make me doubt the path I was on.
