Anastasia13
What is the Church's view of this verse, like what is it saying? Edited July 18, 2005 by Light and Truth
Laudate_Dominum
This verse (the surrounding verses are important too): "But you are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises" of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. " Is basically indicating that the Church is the New Israel, or Israel fulfilled. It alludes to well known verses and themes in Isaiah, Hosea, Michah, and of course Exodus (and elsewhere). This verse (as well as verse 10) indicate that the meaning of Israel is fullfilled and brought to a new level and perfection in the Church established in Christ's Blood. And that no longer are there national or cultural bounds for God's people. There is also a sense of us, as Christians, being "in the world, but not of the world". I hope this helps. :-) I'm sure the better biblical commentaries have some wonderful things to say on this verse. Regards
