I very much enjoyed Lucky Bones. It is a tough read but at the same time you can't put it down. You have to keep reading. It gets hard and it really is tear-jerking at times. It leaves your jaw on the ground and makes your heart stop.

Good to know someone has read the memoir and recommends it! Thanks!

im not sure if this is a dead one but im still interested in knowing about it....

does anyone know if there are like guidelines put out by the Vatican on how to judge a good book or a healthy book from an unhealthy one? i mean the vatican is usually the best place to turn if you are wondering about something like that so i would think they would have one. ive never seen one though.

do yall have guidelines for what a book can and cannot have when you go to buy one or check one out from the library?

Depends on the book.
Are we talking secular books in general?

If it says "Harlequin", I tend to stay away from it. LOL.

I would think it depends on you, your maturity etc.

Ive read many a secular(non religious) books for simple enjoyment. I know they are fiction and therefore the work of someones imagination, so I never read anything into it that isnt there.

Also, I do know that there are books out there that may cause someone to actually question their faith. Honestly though, my faith is strong. Everytime I may question something, there is always an answer. Patience has taught me alot. If I go look, look, looking for the answer often times I end up finding nothing and getting fustrated. The answer usually comes by way of a light tap on the shoulder, if ya know what I mean.

For example, the Trinity is something that no human can describe with perfect understanding because, lets face it, if man were able to describe the perfectness of all what and who of God is, then man would claim to be divine as well, as many a man has done in the past.
Learning about the Trinity is more spiritual to me.
The Trinity has been described in ways like; a long corridor of paintings, each beautiful in its own way and telling a story of man and God, as you walk down the corridor you learn more of God and grow in knowledge of Him.

Or, explaining the Trinity to someone is like explaining light.
If light were broken up we would realize it is made up of three primary colors. Red, Yellow, Blue. It is these three essential colors that create all other colors that the eye sees. But the eye does not 'see' these specific colors of light (a rainbow is a fabulous secret of light) the eye simply sees light. This is a fantastic way to describe the Trinity. How many people see rainbows and never realize it is light separated for the eye to see.

Wanna show yall something. I hope it shows up as I have never done this before. But it gets my point above across a bit better.

I must have stood there for 15 minutes enjoying that. Im so glad I snapped off a few shots before it was gone.

Also, I think this is a great thread.
As a side note, there is no real spot on the board for posting the name of a particular book and getting member feedback on it.
Yes, there are times when I would like someone's opinion on a particular book I am reading. Whether it is something beneficial to my learning about the faith, if you will. Or if there is something in it to avoid.
Can we keep this thread going. Its title is simple and straight to the point...Books.

Pax.
