I also provided an opportunity for you to correct my grammar. Does my generosity have bounds?

TRULY THOU ART HONOURABLE AND KIND. MAY GOD GRANT TO YOU MANY JOYFUL YEARS, AND MAY YOU SEE YOUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN.

And just to be that guy:

Something that really bothers me when people discuss EMHCs is when they say, "Eucharistic Minister". Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are not ministers of the Eucharist. Only priests and bishops are ministers of the Eucharist. And priests, bishops, in addition to deacons are the only ordinary ministers of Holy Communion.

EMHCs and deacons cannot consecrate the Eucharist, therefore they are not ministers of the Eucharist.

My priest described it as extra means "not" in this case and ordinary means "ordained". So, not ordained ministers of Holy Communion. We can not give blessings and we are not ordained. We are just trained to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ.

You are totally being that guy. You Hipster. :)

Part of the problem is that it's such a simple term ingrained in people's psyche. Eucharistic Minister = "Administering" the Eucharist for so many people. But again, everything comes back to sound catechesis. They're still ministers, just not in the same way as priests are.

I also feel like "Extraordinary Ministers..." confuses people, too, because they only think "extraordinary" as "Super duper amesome" and not Extra-Ordinary. So I try to pronounce the "a" to make the distinction.

It's good that you're told that you can't give blessings. That's a major peeve of mine.

Seriously. I was an EMHC in my previous diocese, and our pastor trained us to give blesings. In my humble opinion, people who aren't receiving should just stay in the pew. Doesn't everyone get a blessing at the end of mass?

[/quote]Same here! I try to keep them a little in back of me (if possible).

Side note: my son keeps asking to receive.

Another side note, and argument against EMHCs: he gets confused and thinks the EMHC is a priest

My mom left me in the pew. All the kids sat in the pews when I was a little. Some parents at my current leave the kids, others make them walk. It's weird to me because it wasn't my experience, but that should not be viewed as a criticism.

So far, we've managed to go to a priest every time with John Paul. Actually, near communion time, John Paul is usually starting to get more active, so Roamin usually is up walking with him in the back of the church and uses that to determine where there is a priest or deacon and gets in that line. :ninja:

I remember being left in the pew when I was little, unless my dad was holding me or something, but now, at the same parish I grew up in, all the kids go up. It makes me wonder when/why things changed.

Believe me, you don't want me to leave Charlotte in the pew. She is fast, and would be in the narthex in a matter of seconds, and we sit in the front. I can leave Kieran in the pew, but he's been clinging to me, so he comes with me.

haha,
yeah, there's a reason we call our boy a little ninja. he's too quick & fast to stay in the pew by himself.
