curtins
pham: today I went to the children's mass at my parish. At this mass they have the kids choir sing, they have youth be ushers, youth lectors, and older youth (confirmed and high school) as Eucharistic ministers. Now today none of the Eucharistic ministers showed up so me ( an usher) and my usher freinds had to act in as Eucharistic ministers without every being trained to do so. Before the mass the priest told us so we went up right before Communion (post lamb of God) and he just made sure we know what to do and then we went. I WAS SCARED AS HECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its like woah!!!! Im in charge of distributing God!!!!!!!! Administering the Eucharist in the hand is pretty streight foward but it was when those (thank goodness only about 3 or 4) ppl wanted to reveive it on the tounge. I didnt wanna put my hand in their mouth but I didnt want to let the Eucharist fall! but thank God I didnt mess up or anything and it went pretty smoothly. I'm sure it was God that wanted me to do this for a reason. thanks
Oik
If there was a need, your okay. Make sure though, that you get the liturgicl language correct. There has been some bad catechesis in the years past. You were an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Only ordained Clergy are Eucharistic ministers (Bishops, Priests, and Deacons). Others who are instituted retain thier respective titles (lectors, cantors, acolyte). A reader is not an instituted lector. A music minister/leader is not a cantor. An alter server is not an acolyte. I know what you mean though, it's kind of scary. I was asked to be a reader right before Mass one time! There weren't many people there though and it was at a Chapel (small church). Piccoli Fiori JMJ
I am trained to be one and I always seem to get the people who wanna do things wrong and I cannot do anything about it... like today for example: I was one of the cups and this lady came up with her husband and then proceeded to give it to her husband which is a no no, unless you are a deacon or something but we were told not to let that happen... But it is good that you stepped up and you didn't have to deal with people trying to do things they shouldn't... Did you feel kinda tingley or anything? Old_Joe
When i had to be an altar server for the very first time in high school, I was incredibly nervous. I'm one of those people who doesn't like getting up in front people and doing something. I kinda knew what to do, but not really. I told the priest to tell me what he needed when he needed it. That helped until I could became comfortable being in front of all those people.

My friends who are EMs were talking about how weird they felt giving Communion on the tongue, so I just assumed most everybody else was weirded out about it, too! I guess I was right! I always pray that no accident happens.. ( Im not exactly all the way cordinated to begin with).. I can't imagine being a EM
ardillacid
I always receive on the tongue. Am I just the weird one?
dUSt
The EMCs that feel weird when distributing on the tongue shouldn't be EMCs in the first place. Sorry. Most churches could get rid of over half of their EMCs and still have too many anyway. They shouldn't be used except when neccesary.

franciscanheart
There is a way to do it, a slick motion of the hand that is very easy to do. No one should worry about giving on the tongue, its very simple. And people shouldnt worry about receiving on the tongue. The only thing that touches you is Jesus and you wont lick the persons hand if you arent trying to.
