Converting to Catholicism...

Well this is my first post at PhatMass and i am pleased to be here. Ill start by telling you all a little about myself.

I just turned 20 on the 3rd of July and well i have always believe in God and that Jesus is the Messiah. I was brought up as a protestant since birth. I had not gone to church very often and was unfamiliar with my religion. My mother became divorced when i was about 12 and when i was 15 she had remarried a Catholic man (good man).

My mother had always never wanted me to go to a catholic church when i was younger, I dont know why she felt this way but i was young. She had converted to Catholicism shortly after she had met her soon to be husband and then were married in the Catholic church.

Ill try to cut to the chase. I have gone to a few masses and i enjoy them very much and have this feeling within myself that i dont really know how to explain it. I go now every sunday with my parents. I have been reading as much as i can about the faith, trying to decide if i should convert. Im doing this strictly for myself and not my mother.

I feel that i have found the Lord. I want to become stronger in my faith. I strongly believe that i want to become Catholic. I would like to hear others stories and help me in making my life changing decision.

I guess im simply asking all of you to preach to me and help me in making my first step toward becoming Catholic and in my opinion a better person.

I could go on forever and in more depth on how im a sinner and how i want to recieve the lord. Also about how i have already began to act upon my religious beliefs. (i felt the protestant religion didnt have enough action involved)

I thank everyone who has spent the time to read this topic. Also i will thank those who respond in advanced. Thank you

Sean

(PS I posted this on open mic then noticed this forum so i moved it in)

come on hsmom, if you're going to offer a "kick," you've got to deliver :getaclue:

Sean, a lot of us have been where you are now. Talk to the parish priest about investigating the Church, possibly through the RCIA program - possibly through some other parish program that leads into RCIA. And we'll be here to answer the questions that don't occur to you (or that you may be embarrassed to ask) when you're over at the parish.

Well, it isn't exactly what I was looking for . . .

You can read my story in Converted from JW to Catholic.

As for joining the church, really that's your decision. Make sure you know exactly why the reasons you want to convert. I think talking to the priest is a good start.

Good luck with your journey!! <3 :priest:

SRMartin..............i'm so glad that you enjoy the mass. just wait til you get to experience it as a catholic!! when you talk to the priest, ask him about starting RCIA. also, you may want to check out the Reference Section and start learning as much as you can about Catholicism. when my knowledge grew, so did my love for the Church. if you have any questions about what you read or learn, just let us know

i would encourage you to constantly participate in the Mass as much as you can. Go daily if you have the time. :)

You really start to get a lot out of it.

Also check out Adoration. :) You don't "need" to be Catholic for that. it is amazing as well.
