Theologian in Training
I dunno if its that easy to say that you could just pray in the midst of temptation.. My experience is that when im in the midst of temptation, or even about to do something lustful, I know in my head I could pray and offer it up for it to be gone and get myself out of the situation..but i've put myself in that situation and its really, really difficult to say no and not do it. Its like I say to myself "I know I can pray and ask Jesus to help me, but man do I want this.." Its only after the fact do I realize how stupid that option was and then I beg for His Mercy and help the next time I get in this situation.. Thats just me though, probably a rare thing but thats what happens in this end. Actually, if you scroll up Uncle Gus and Jake probably, in my opinion, have the best idea. It makes perfect sense too, if you are in the midst of a very difficult temptation, then 9 times out of 10 prayer keeps you focused on trying to get "rid of it," and therefore, you immediately give them temptation more power, and allow it to eat away at you, as you are trying to rid yourself of the temptation. I learned that the more energy you put in trying forget the temptation, the stronger it gets....I like Uncle Gus and Jake's idea. CatholicAndFanatical
I agree theo, I will try what they stated..sometimes I wish I could just take a pill that would take those feelings away. I mean, i've already done my part of procreating, I have two wonderful kids of my own..These feelings only cause problems, I questioned a few doctors office's about it and they thought I was crazy, one nurse swore I must of been a lunatic because I asked her if there was anything to lower the sex drive..she said "Why would you wanna do that??" lol..yea im wierd.
Uncle Gus
Procreation isn't the only reason for sex, you know.

CatholicAndFanatical
yes I know, but its still not an option for a single person. Im not married so these feelings only cause issues. I have two kids, before I became Catholic, but was never married..yea i know im not perfect so what..but being single and having these feelings are normal, but distracting. that was my point. Aloysius
i grab my waterproof rosary, get into the shower wit a bathing suit on, put it on the coldest i kan stand, and get through an entire Chaplet of Divine Mercy b4 i let myself warm it up.... when i kan. i'm gonna get myself some holy water <i still cant believe i havn't gotten any yet, i'm def gettin some this week> then keep it in my pocket wit a crucifix and bless myself if i am tempted and there is no shower nearby. also, a lil pin in the pocket, if it gets really bad and therez none of the previous stuff available, u kan jam the pin into your thigh! And seriously, therez many a time when i know if there was a thornbush nearby, i would throw myself into it. i like jump around and hit my head against the wall n stuff... i just go crazy. i know there's the hormonal aspect, but there'z no question it's also a demonic aspect. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may GOD rebuke him, we humbly pray. and do thou o prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Gehenna satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. B)

hyperdulia again
I LOVE Aloysius's idea! Push ups (and exercise in general) also work.
CatholicAndFanatical
yea exercise is a great idea, i should do more of it actually, temptation or not hehe. My Spiritual Director told me that I needed to focus that energy on other things like exercise or doing some type of charity work, but I cant comprehend how that feeling is going to go away by doing those things...wont it go away for a while but then come back with friends and be even stronger?? hyperdulia again
exercise exhausts and pleases in much the same way as acting on the lustful impulse...charity work will provide more graces with which to fight temptation.
