Lounge Daddy
ryanmeyersmusic... hehehe! Ya, a great pic. Focus on this pic when thinking impure thoughts, y'all.
willguy
Thanx for the advice ya'll. Oh, and BTW, Benedict was the thornbush guy. I went to a Benedictine Monastery last weekend for a vocations retreat and they gave all the guys a holy card with an icon of Benedict on it and he's holding a thornbush and the monk was like "He's holding a thornbush because he was said to have thrown himself into one whenever he had impure thoughts." St. Francis is said to have always looked at the ground in the presence of a woman so he wouldn't look at her lustfully.
Uncle Gus
"Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold night!!! Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold night!!!" Seriously, I got some good advice from a Priest on this one. When you are being tempted towards lustful thoughts/deeds, it's not always a good idea to prayer right there and then about it, because then you are dwelling on it, and keeping it in mind. Rather, distract yourself with other thoughts. Think about something you like, something you enjoy, and then pray during the times you are not being tempted, for the grace to resist the temptation the next time it visits. Like I've found that if I have an impure thought and then I immediately think of Mary, then all of a sudden Mary get's dragged into the impure thought. Then I have to fight against impure thoughts with Mary. Distract yourself first (whether by thorn bush or not) and then get to praying once your mind is off the bad stuff. God Conquers
Again, this is when Christ on the cross becomes especially useful. It's not very sexual and can't become so.
cmotherofpirl
Cold showers work wonders, so does cleaning the freezer or refrigrerator. :)
cmotherofpirl
It is also so much harder now than it used to be. Every time I open my mail I am inundated with porn. I turn on the TV to the TV guide channel and half of their advertisements can lead to lust. I open any magazine or even wait in line at the checkout and the magazinesz can incite lust. On another board we are discussing lust in marriage, anybody have any thoughts on that?
God Conquers
wow. Refer to "Love and Responsibility" by Karol Wojtyla cause I sure don't have the answers.
ironmonk
the hail mary...many, many hail mary's YES! Hail Mary's are great.... From praying the Rosary daily, when I would have some dreams with lots of temptation, I actually started reciting the Rosary in my dream... it helped BIG TIME. St. Pio is a great example... I think it was him that stated that the most powerful prayer is the Rosary. God Bless, Your Servant in Christ, ironmonk
CatholicAndFanatical
I dunno if its that easy to say that you could just pray in the midst of temptation.. My experience is that when im in the midst of temptation, or even about to do something lustful, I know in my head I could pray and offer it up for it to be gone and get myself out of the situation..but i've put myself in that situation and its really, really difficult to say no and not do it. Its like I say to myself "I know I can pray and ask Jesus to help me, but man do I want this.." Its only after the fact do I realize how stupid that option was and then I beg for His Mercy and help the next time I get in this situation.. Thats just me though, probably a rare thing but thats what happens in this end.
