Hi all ,I just saw this show about Global Warming today and it kind of creeped me out . They said that maybe in the next 50 years we could be in the next ice age ,what does everyone think about Global Warming ?

I dont know what to believe ,there are some scientists that say its not happening ,but a lot say it is . I actually think that the world isnt going to end this way and God will end it the way He wants to ,but not this way ,because its not in the bible. I dont know ,what are your thoughts ?

God Bless and Mary Protect

Yeah, I reckon its happening...with the loss of fossil fuels etc....so I am one of these who thinks we should be DOING something about it.

The point is nobody reallly knows. There could be natural cycles or even a natural progression we have no clue about.
Is the climate changing ? Yes.

Is it supposed to be changing? We haven't a clue.

good point. What's really weird is that every several million years Earth's ecosystems go through a period of massive extinction where large numbers of species are wiped out.

Really ? Great ,were all going to die !! Ive also heard that if you look at the earths age from the bibles perspective ,its only 15000 years old ,thats what a lot of creationists say .

How could global warming be the same as going into another ice age? Isn't that..... backwards?

I don't think we would all die in mass extinction as a result of global warming or other ecological problems on a short-term, dramatic scale, but I think if we are not careful we will make the world a very, very miserable and uncomfortable place to live in compared to what we have now -- death and disease could become as commonplace as medieval times. We would not nearly enjoy some of the same creature comforts we once did, either. We already pollute ourselves and give ourselves cancer with all kinds of man-made chemicals and other inhospitable things.

I think there is some truth to global warming, but I'm not totally sure that we're totally to blame. Astronomers have noted the sun has been incredibly active over the last 50 years and simulations show that even as little as a .5% increase in the light power emitted by the sun can cause dramatic effects. I think we should make preparations to anticipate the effects of global warming. For all we know all of our efforts to stop it could be futile and we would have been better off preparing to ride out the tough climatic times.

But any movement to clean up the environment can't be all that negative. Except for the Kyoto Protocol. That's socialism (not even cleverly) disguised as Climate Change. When you read about it and realize what it is you'll notice it doesn't really reduce greenhouse gasses, it just makes rich nations like the US pay poor nations to pollute just the same amount as we do today while it allows nations like China and India, who are quickly becoming big polluters, a free pass on pollution.

for every report on global warming report theres a counter report. some say global warming others say ice age....both interpret and prove the earth differently

cmom is right that we just dont have enough information about the earth's history to make such a claim.

im not a scientist (but i'll ask my prof lol) but no changes are going to be in a matter of 50 years or like in the "Day after tomorrow" movie....."Hey, lets head to mom's there's an iceburg heading this way at 3 o'clock" but would take a long time to actually occur.

and like jay said, prepare and think about it. the earth is constantly changing...its definitely not some dead weight (i loved taking geology lol)

Speaking of the delicate nature of hospitable climate, did anybody catch that EWTN segment the other night with Father Robert Spitzer about quantum cosmology and the creation of the universe? He discusses how, especially in light of science and recent physics, the notion of a superior being and superior intelligence (existance of God, of course!) is impossible to ignore.

The fact that our very law of gravity is the way it is, is simply phenomenal... if it were changed a *fraction* one way, or another, the universe would either be a series of black holes, or on the flip side, a bunch of planets spinning out of control and incapable of anything stable. And that is just one of many compelling examples... our carbon-based life and the existance and balance of the elements, et cetera -- our universe is operated on a series of dials and knobs that are fine-tuned and "frozen" in place, if you will. Look at our little puffball of a planet. Juuuust right. It's all too spookily in order to just be random and pointless.

God is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeallly smart. :D
