Therapy and Psychology

Jaime

Recommended Posts

I've seen that several folks around these parts are against therapy. Some are rather vehement in their opinions. So I'm wondering why some folks are so opposed to the world of psychology? Do folks find it oppositional to the Faith or are there other reasons why it is a distasteful subject to some?

Just curious.

Don John is just concerned with materialism, a perfectly alright concern when it comes to the theology surrounding Catholic psychology, as to where human nature really resides... whether it is the brain that causes the personality or the soul that causes the personality and thus causes the way the brain is.

For the record I'm not just trying to draw out DJ. I would genuinely like to get into a discussion with folks on why they have problems with the field of psychology. And I know its more than just Don John.

I think its a topic worth getting into.

interesting...however...im not against it...in any way.
words obviously taken out of context.
i..however..believe..its not the ONLY way to live a happy normal life. maybe a cetain situations, incidents, or person/people may effect the way you live your life. however there are always alternative solutions to such problems that may/will result in closure or effective tools that can be incorporated into everyday life. such for example may..giving your will over to God..praying..looking to The Word for inspiration insight confidince and discovering glory and grace. and even those do not neccesarily the ONLY options. talking about your problems. working out an ongoing problem, if possible. and/or forgiveness. the world is open to possibilities. you can learn communication. find somebody you can confide in. and therapy is never a BAD alternative. it is actually one that may help. just find a therapist who isnt insane insecure and emotionally unstable, himself. LOL.

It's probably all the scientologists on phatmass who are opposed to therapy. Do you know the history of psychiatry?

It's definitely not just DJ who is against psychology here.

Also, in response to Aloysius, from what I gathered on the suicide thread, its more than just the material aspect that DJ is concerned with.

Cmom, that is a really interesting site. I didn't know such groups existed. Thanks :)
