FDA Approves First Chewable Birth Control Pill

Friday, November 14, 2003

WASHINGTON — Women are about to get their first chewable birth-control pill.

The Food and Drug Administration (search) on Friday approved a chewable, spearmint-flavored version of a longtime contraceptive tablet, called Ovcon 35.

The tablet works if a woman swallows it whole. But a woman also can chew this version, as long as she then drinks a full glass of liquid immediately afterward to ensure the full dose reaches the stomach and no residue is left in the mouth, the FDA said.

Warner Chilcott Inc. of Rockaway, N.J., will market the chewable contraceptive. Officials didn't return phone calls asking how soon it will be available, and at what price.

Spearmint flavor? This getting way too easy.

Ya... I will be like floride in city water.

So us Catholics may need to live in the country soon, so we can tap a well to have a family.

<_<

Are these pills in the shape of Fred and Barney?

ummmm . . . so many people are gonna get sick. Probably their breath is gonna stink . . .or they're gonna die . . . and this will be taken off of the market. How completely irresponsible this production is.

I really don't see the point! The pill is so small it can easily be swallowed without a glass of water and why prolong the moment of putting a drug into your body?

Now if they had spent the money on developing an 'easy to put on' condom for men.....

Except that condoms are against Church teaching too, Ellentia.

Kilroy the Ninja

Soon they will simply add it to the drinking water

What makes you think they don't already add it to something? <_<

Condoms are against church teaching, but on their part this would have been money better well spent :P When are they going to realize that it doesn't matter what kind of birth control is used or how many different kinds are distributed; it doesn't healthily work and it is not effective b/c it is NOT natural.
