I agree completely!
Yay for diversity of ways of praising the same God!

I like Lifeteen Halifax, it's 57%* more reverent than the average Mass in my town.

*Statistic may or may not have been made up on the spot.

However, the #1 reason for that is not the "Lifeteen Mass", it's the Fr. James Mallon Mass.
teens are able "help out more" with any mass, not just LIFETEEN.  altar serving, ushering, lectoring and music minsitry is open to all ages, no matter what mass.  and the "music is better", phillipe, isn't a good reason to chose a mass.  not to mention, you can go to ANY mass and still come for LIFENite, its not just a LIFETEEN mass only thing.
this from a LIFETEEN youth minister!

why isnt good music a good reason. it doesnt really make a difference whether i go to the morning Mass or Lifeteen Mass, its just more appealing to me plus i mentioned the homilies are teen oriented

I personally think that Mass is not a rock concert and drum sets at Mass drive me nuts... I'm not there to tap and clap along like a sing-along... I'm there to offer the song as a prayer for God... I used to not have a problem with it, but it gets on my nerves... well, this could all be because I am going to be a cloistered nun, but still... Mass doesn't seemed very focused on Christ unless the music allows for this focus. We don't have Lifeteen at my parish, but we have Youth Quake family Mass and the the Youth Quake Night... just like Life Teen in many ways, including some liturgical abuses... I'm kinda against the whole "better" music... infact, I prefer Mass with little music sometimes! I think the only thing we sing for Daily Mass is the enterance and closing... that's it and its a-capella... Music is for God, not for a good time....

everyone has their own way of offering their prayers, sacrifices, and wills to God. yes LifeTeen Masses at one time were very irreverent, but all that has been, and is being changed so that everyone is glorifying God in a proper manner--whether it be with an organ or guitars as instuments for the music, and whether or not the youth are taking parts as Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist.

we all have our own preferences, but we are all one Body, one Spirit in Christ... so please stop the debating. it tears our unity over simple issues.

any modernistic mass is in error. Stop compromising Catholicism just to apeal to the youth. if they want to be catholic they must except the FULL truth not some watered down protestanized garbage. (I am not talking about Novus Ordo just about the Masses which are riddled with Liturgical abuses)

"Even if Catholics faithful to Tradition are reduced to a handful, they are the ones who are the True Church of Jesus Christ."
~St. Athanasius

Funny you should mention liturgical abuses...the equivalent of Lifeteen masses in my area have no more than the other churches. And I have never heard anything proclaimed there that isn't in step with Church teaching. just a bit ago I was at a parish here where a nun gave a homily about prisoners she visited needed to be "re-baptized." hmm which shloud i go to...

Exactly.

If Lifeteen is a diabolical tool from Satan himself, let the Bishops or the Pope speak out. But as of now, let's not debate about it. Notice how I posted this in the Open Mic. Moderators, you know what to do.

"ringing people to Mass and closer to Christ" isn't an excuse to do whatever you want. like futurenun said, Mass isn't a performance and as fun as "LIFETEEN type" music can be sometimes, its usually not too appropriate at mass. at least, the loud, electric guitar, drum set kind, not necessarily modern music in general. going to music for the mass or the homily is completely missing the point of going to Mass. its not just LIFETEEN that has this problem, by any means.
sigh. as a youth minister, i just wish that people would/could see the bigger picture -_-

Gregorian chant was modern when it was first used in Mass. Though I'm not advocating the use of drums or eletric guitars at a normal mass (doesn't go right with me), but for a teen mass, I don't see any problem.

This is not a debate thread! Please create another thread in the Debate Table!
