philothea
u sure what u have isnt a look-alike? i have never heard of the allergic reacytion thing, but then i dont know squat about spiders, which is why im doing so much googling now
I am pretty certain that they're recluses. (I always called them "violin spiders" before the hoopla about brown recluses.) They don't make webs. They hide behind things and then come out to hunt, I guess. Sometimes they sleep in little silk cocoons, in a corner, or behind a picture frame. When I see one I put a drop of water on a hard surface nearby and it'll rush over and drink. Maybe they understand that I like spiders. cmotherofpirl
I think a very thick shoe hill applied forcefully will deal with the problem. I had spider bite that took several months to heal, it was NOT pleasant.

We have lots of regular little brown spiders and some little little blackish jumpy ones, but I've never seen anything scarier than that around my house (praise God... I'm not afraid of spider, I am afraid of poisonous thingys).

ironmonk
um, we just found a spider in a closet. ive been googling brownn recluses online, and he fits all the descriptions of a recluse, except for one thing. his back legs are banded. this is reeeaaalllly important, is the spider the real deal? or is it a look-alike. from what ive found its the real deal. please help!!!!!!!
Sounds like one... better bug bomb your house... I've been bit by one, it's not pretty... I thank God for the healing that I received... and the scar that reminds me of the little miracle... http://www.moraltruth.com/mtbbs/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=268 The deadly spiders (brown recluse, black/brown widows) have a few variations. If it's got a fiddle or a red hour glass - watch out. I've killed both brown recluses and black widows around my house. God Bless, ironmonk
Theoketos
Iron Monk was bitten by one time as well. Rather painful. And the bands probably mean he was a sub-species or something. Ironically Brown recluse feed on dead insects, so if you call an eterminator, more will show up unless you tell him that there is a recluse infestation.
