Jaime
We can call people out on errors on their knowledge of the Church, but we can't call people out on spelling? Seriously? Ok.
phatcatholic
I want to add, as a point of clarification, that, in suggesting therapy, neither I nor the others who have suggested it meant to elevate it as a replacement of prayer or of the role of Jesus Christ in our lives. Instead, we see the combination of Jesus and therapy, or prayer and therapy, or the Church and therapy as particularly effective. I for one have seen how God has worked through me in my capacity as a counselor for others. He can work with such qualified individuals to bring healing in people's lives. that said, infinitelord, what practical things are you doing to help yourself? you mentioned going to a psychologist. anything else? do you have a hobby that you enjoy? are you getting enough sleep? do you eat three meals a day? do you read the bible? how often do you go to mass? eucharistic adoration? do you ever pray the rosary? do you have any healthy outlets for the anger and other feelings that can be overwhelming (such as exercise, writing in a journal, painting, running, or playing a sport)? all of these things are very practical things that you can do yourself to achieve some healing. most of them don't cost anything either. give some of them a try and see how it goes. btw, i am qualified to make these statements. pax christi, phatcatholic

ironmonk
[clears throat] well i have been to 2 different psychologists in the past 3 years. I am currently going to a psychiatrist and he has me on anti-depressant pills. Only god can help in an issue like this. If there is no god then it doesnt matter if you are gay or not.
Hey bro, Did you get a chance to read this? http://www.cathmed.org/publications/homosexuality.html It's from the Catholic Medical Association. At one time I was studying to be a psychiatrist, the more I learned about psychology, the less I believed pills were the answer, then I dropped the Chemistry major part and stuck with psychology as my major. The more I learned about psychology the more I realized that there are so many bad psychologists out there and the APA's are a joke (American Psychiatric/Psychologist Assosciations). Now, at 32, I'm still in school going for a degree in CIS. They seem to have tried for fix men without paying attention to man's needs. i.e. healthy psyche includes body, mind, and spirit. Most in the world of psychology ingore man's spiritual need - the spiritual need is the foundation of health. I do not think that any non-Christian psychologist/psychiatrist will be able to help you. If you are going to go to a psychologist/psychiatrist, I would suggest finding one that has a strong Catholic faith. The best psychologist/psychiatrist that you can find will be a Catholic Priest. Also, there is a ton of psychology in the bible. With God, you can change anything about yourself that you want, but it does take time and it can seem hard to do. I believe that the fact that you are discussing it on this forum shows that you have the strength and will to do so. Read Scripture, other spritual readings of the saints, and most of all pray. If you can, spend at least 10 minutes a week in adoration of the Lord in the Eucharist. Pray for Our Mother's intercession. Something that helped me was to read at least one chapter a day in the bible starting with the New Testament and giving it some thought... if you want to read more, then do so, but read at least one a day, and never stop, read it over and over. One last thing, you are right, nothing matters if there is no God. There is a God, and His Church is the Catholic Church. Please read this: http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/...ics/ap0002.html If in doubt, remember Pascal's wager... The smartest gamble would be to believe in God. Because.... If we live like we believe in God, and there is no God, we loose nothing because nothing matters anyway if we go into oblivion. If we live like there is no God, and there is God, we loose everything and spend eternity in hell. Isn't it the wiser choice to live like there is a God, even if there isn't? I know for a fact that there is a God, but when I doubted, Pascal's wager helped me hunt for the answers. The article above summarizes the answers that I found that are undeinable with simple logic/reason. Please read the above to articles and give them a lot of thought. rckllnknny
and im talkin this issue to open mic. becuase i dont think people who claim theyre catholic or hold seats in society as a "psychologist" should be talkin to me the way you have. my five year old shows more maturity... i wouldnt be able to trust someone like you with my problems. you lack morals and dignity and respect. your compassion is selfish. your ignorance is obvious. and its not just hot stuff. show some respect to infinitelord...as i have for example...and take our issues elsewhere on open mic! THE END.
Jaime
. hot stuff did your therapist tell you that you were self-absorbed dillusional hypochondriac?? or was she waiting for you to tell her that? rckllnknny
yeah..that youre not showin any?! i can..im not on here claiming my opinions hold more regard to anyone elses as im a psychologist and catholic. YOU are in a more authoritve respectable seat in our community. you should be out there making a difference in this world. by spreading positive influence over the world. i see you TRYING to help infinitelord. but i see you stepping on the toes of your fellow man proclaiming yourself with self-righteousness. let others breathe. youre not the only one with a good opinion when it comes to helping others. can we end this or what?? Jaime
rckllnknny Read my comments. The only opinion of yours that I claim to invalidate is that no one here is qualified to suggest therapy as a course of action. That and your opinion that I'm a quack. I actually supported your statement about God being central to the process. You don't agree with therapy. That's your right. But others will disagree with you. That's what happens on the debate board. If you would prefer not to receive some personal shots, then I suggest you refrain from making them. If you disagree with someone's point of view, make your point instead of simply taking shots.
rckllnknny
i never said i couldnt take them. im from the ghetto hot stuff. what do you think? im just saying this thread isnt about us is about infinitelord. and in a debate, i dont think people should be taking personal shots. everyones opinions matters. or at least they should. youre not helping him. youre just proving to me that youre a quack. i dont even have to "argue" this debate anymore..the more you talk the more evident you make it that youre a quack and therapy is pointless. wanna make a personal shot. come to L-town. wanna help someone...PRAY. Carrie
Rick, please stop for a second. hot stuff's last post was in no way intended to be insulting. On the other hand, your last post seems insulting. It doesn't matter what part of town any of us come from, so that's not even necessary to say. You are more than entitled to an opinion, but please try to give your opinion in a respectful manner. You keep saying this thread is about infinitelord, so why not just drop the whole issue all together? Let's get back to what this thread was first about, which is infinitelord. C'mon, please?
