FaithThroughItAll
hey everyone! i hope you are all doing well. i know that i can count on you guys for anything, so i come to you once again asking for help. i apologize if i am always seeking guidance, but i am just a very unsure person who really needs others' advice. this year i will be a senior in high school and i am really hoping to make my faith stay a part of who i am for the rest of my life. in order to do so i am looking at colleges centered around my faith and stuff of this sort. but at the same time i am probably going to have to leave the youth group which has become such a home for me. i want to go away to college but i don't know if i can leave these wonderful people i have been blessed to know. and since it is my last year i really want to share as much of who i am that i possible can. the thing is i have a very low self-esteem and low confidence and i don't know how to share my witness in a good way. so i was wishing that if i told you all a little about me maybe you could help me out. so here's my story, kinda shortened up. it may look weird, but i am going to list a lot so it makes it easier for you readers... i have been through many struggles like: -a broken family (no one is divorced or separated, but my immediate family never talks to each other about anything and we never see my extended family) . -always seeming to make untrue friends. -addiction (to things like alcohol, smoking, partying) and the withdrawal. -abuse (all different kinds) and neglect (from loved ones). -and probably my biggest battle has been ultimately self-hate and feeling unworthy (within this i have dealt with many varying types and issues of self-harm and stuff like that). and the thing is my faith is not perfect the way it is now, it needs so much work. but i really want to share who i am and who i have come to be-thanks to Christ's love and the many people who loved God enough to love me. i want to give my testimony but i don't know what to include and what not to and like how much is too much detail. i have no idea what the topic should be or anything. all i know is that i really wanna minister and reach out to other people and i want to incorporate some sort of current media (song or movie clip maybe) so that it is easier to understand. please help! if you need more information about me just reply and i will write back, i try to look at the forums pretty frequently. thank you so much! God bless you all! Love In Christ, Danielle
Thy Geekdom Come
Sounds like you have all you need. The only advice I can give you is let it all come from the heart. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and be a little vulnerable.
franciscanheart
Sounds like you have all you need. The only advice I can give you is let it all come from the heart. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and be a little vulnerable.
I echo that. Maybe also instead of making the whole thing about your own testimony (though this will be the underlying theme) you could make it more focused on your thanks to and love of your youth group. You could thank them for having the courage to witness the faith and stay in youth group and basically just for being good people. Shifting the focus to them from you might help you a little in your vulnerability and give you more of a reason to share these things. You could extend thanks and also an offer to talk to anyone who ever needed to talk. When you leave, you wont leave forever. You will be back on breaks or during the summers. I've found that in opening up and in taking others in that need your support as well is a really healing thing. It brings you closer to your circle of friends and brings you closer to Christ as well. FaithThroughItAll
yeah what i was thinking was to right like bullets of what i wanted to include and remember them as pointers but then when i actually gave the talk i would just do it from the heart. but the thing i am worried about is like rambling on or giving too much detail. i guess i should reference what i used to do overall and talk about it briefly. and then maybe spend most of the other time talking about what led me to change and how my life has been since i changed? i dunno if that's what you were thinking? but yeah i really agree with what you said.
franciscanheart
yeah i wouldnt go into too much detail. you dont have to say very much at all for people to understand your past. sounds like you know exactly what you need and want to do so id just go with it. let us know how it goes! FaithThroughItAll
but how do you know how much detail is good?
jmjtina
pray about it. You can't put it together on your own, make sure you are going to Mass, praying and ask to be inspired by the Holy Spirit. God usually helps so much, especially if you visit adoration. prayers for you!
iggy
what you do is write a bunch of stuff you can leave out. If they seem interested in one particular topic, you can talk more about it, because you have that added detail there, but if something isn't their bag of rice, you can just glaze over it, so they know it was there, without you going into great detail. FaithThroughItAll
i mean i dunno time doesn't really matter i guess, but for planning i don't want it to be too long ya know?
iggy
again, it depends on your audence, i think... if they are going to zone you out at a certian point, then you want to make sure you don't go past it, you know what I mean?

lifeteenchick527
i have to agree with Micah (Raphael) u have everything that u need... i was asked at the end of the first semster of sophomore year (iam gonna be a junior in september) to write a speech that i would be saying at the honors assembly at the beg of the second semester/end of first semester. i am very good at speaking and things like that for the most part... if its not planned and its my opinion or if iam just inclass or with my friends or something... however i was suppose to talk about how i make it from day to day...i had nooo idea wat to write... well it just so happened that one of my bestfriends was goin to the Abbey that night and she invited me to go with her... i went and i brought a notebook... and i just sat infront of Jesus in Adoration, i didnt use the notebook when i was there...but as soon as i got home i sat on the computer and just started writing. after going through it again and putting it into paragraphs and organizing it, i took it to my teacher who asked me to write it, and i went through it with her. all she told me was "that was great! now all u have to do is go home and read it to yourself out loud and put in commas where u take a breath so that when u r reading it its easier. and put it in big font so that u can find ur self easily if u loose your spot." u might want to try to sit infront of adoration and just pray about it... God will show u wat he wants u to write... God Bless LTC :hearts: (ps i will post the speech i gave if anyone would like me too)
FaithThroughItAll
wow yeah that is so awesome...adoration is most def. my favorite thing. everytime i am upset i can just walk down my hill a little bit and get to my church and just be at peace. without adoration and worship i dunno how lost i might be right now . but that is really powerful and i would love to hear how it all turned out. thanks for the advice
