IXpenguin21
I had a big problem on the atkins diet!!! i began to become extreemly depressed and upset with everything. it was because my blood sugar was so low because you basicaly deny yourself sugar and carbs! on ash wednesday and good friday, the same thing happens because i fast. becareful with any short cut diet. honestly, my mother works for weight watchers and has lost 68 lbs, gained it back twice (because she had two more children) and lost it all again on the same program. the only problem with that recomendation is that it costs a little money. apreciate who you are no matter what! if you're trying to lose weight for health reasons, all the power and prayers to you! if you're trying to look good, you look good already!!! Seminarian
I am currently doing the new direction plus diet, it is a liquid fast done through either a doctor or hospital, meaning I drink 4 shakes a day and lots of water/diet soda, that's it. It is completely safe, you get all of your nutrients, you feel full, and the shakes actually taste good. After three weeks on the diet I officially have lost 28 pounds unofficially its probably around 32 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks. It really works, but requires much temperence. I have used Christ's temptations in the desert, the cross, and other pieces of scriptures to carry me this far on the diet. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
VeraMaria
Geez peple, don't mean to sound disrespectful or anything, but you know...depriving your body of carbs won't do any good...you'll loose muscle and then you'll gain back what you lost in fat. Exercise + Balanced Diet = It works!
Seek
I am a vegetarian. When I first became one I lost 20 pounds over the course of a month or two. I haven't loss or gained anymore since. I am only 5 pounds over weight and I think that is from a lack of exercise. God bless.
IcePrincessKRS
See...my eating habits are just difficult. The only meat I have no trouble eating is chicken, and I eat my pastas. Of course, if I could just eat all pastas, or something else it'd be perfect, ya know? Of course, I just have to be a picky eater Well....I'll check out the book....hopefully I'll be able to lose the weight and be able to fit into my high school pantaloons again! I'd just be happy to fit into my pre-pregnancy pantaloons perfectly again. (I'm not saying anything about what that size is in relation to my highschool size.) I try to do pilates and yoga sculpting (not at all the same as flukey-meditation yoga, this is basically like pilates only slower) but it doesn't always work out exactly the way I want to. I end up working out once a week if that, but lately I have been really busy with household projects so I figure that kinda makes up for it a little bit. I try to eat healthy (not quite my Mom's diet, but healthy at least) but so often quick processed things are the most convenient things to prepare with a baby, because I don't have to give her to her Daddy for as long and make him take time off work (he works from home). I just need to take advantage of Adrienne's nap times a little better, I guess.... motivation... blah... PS--- My Mom's diet is great, if you decide to try it out. When she started it was while I was in TX for the summer a couple summers ago and when I came home to NY to see the family before school started back up I was amazed at the difference. She was alot more energetic and she looked great, very healthy. (The kids called it "penance" because they wanted sugar and it was basically "banned" from the house.) Carrie
atkins works....i did a modified version of it and lost 40 pounds in 6 months. atkins.com has all the info you need, including a carb counter, instructions on the different phases of the program, and an online journal to track your progress. _bc
Here's some info I got from a doctor, or what I remember of it anyway: You need a long-term diet that you like to be on, not just because it works but because you like the habits it involves. If you (like me) don't like to eat red meat, and you like pasta and rice, Atkins is not something you'll be able to stay in on the long term. The risk is that you lose a lot of weight, much of it muscle, and then ultimately return to eating stuff you like, which leads to gaining the weight back again. Only this time, you have less muscle so your body naturally burns fewer calories and it will be harder for you to lose the weight again. Kind of like a yo-yo. It's better to develop some habits that you can keep for years to come. Atkins works (mainly) because you eat fewer calories than you did before. It's not because proteins and fat are somehow 'better' than carbs. It also works in part because fats and carbs are somehow complimentary for your body, so if you eat absolutely zero carbs the body will not be able to make much use of the fat => fewer calories absorbed. When proteins exceed 20% of your calories, the body converts the rest to carbs before using them. This produces waste that your kidneys weed out of your bloodstream, and ultimately end up in your, erm, liquid waste. This is why you need to drink so much water on the Atkins diet, and also why that diet is bad for your kidneys. This is the reason most doctors only recommend Atkins for people who are _really_ overweight and can't lose it through other methods. Here's what I do: I eat fruit and raw vegetables while cooking and in between meals (because I like them and they are filling but low in calories), so when the food is ready I'm only eating as much as I need and not more. Then just eat relatively low fat foods that are also delicious. And exercise needs to be fun. Not the kind where you have to force yourself to go every time, but something you like for its own sake. I play badminton, which is pretty good exercise as soon as you've learned the technique, especially for someone as competitive as I can get. VanHooty
Yeah, _bc is right. I've just started a self-modified version of Atkins (after a bunch of extensive research... still having nightmares about the CREB cycle). I figured that, yes, my kidneys are probably going to go to pits and that I'll have to probably have them removed and be put through dialysis once a week. But, even more importantly, I've realized two things in this first week. One, I'm probably not going to lose weight because I'm eating less bread and pasta. I'm going to lose weight because I'm not eating like a typical adolsencent any more (i.e. pizza for every meal and chips for snacks). And, mostly, I think it's about eating in moderation. I did suffer from withdrawl symptoms from the lack of sugar for about three days, but after that I felt kind of fine. And lastly, which is the biggest point, this is not a diet. It's going to have to be a lifestyle change. Which includes diet and exercise. So, I'm guessing that if I work at it losing weight shouldn't be too difficult. As long as I adhere to the new lifestyle change. And, I guess, I'll see how it goes.
marielapin
My husband and I have been on the Zone diet for the past few months. It requires you to balance protein and carbs, so you don't have to deprive yourself of carbs like atkins. Plus, how much you eat is dependant on your lifestyle, how active you are. You are not required to exercise. I would highly recommend it. It's really easy to follow. I think the url is zonediet. com
