Apotheoun
i was just wondering, why in the Eastern Churches are women not allowed to go beyond the iconostas or the sanctuary? as was said before. just curious. thanks tom
Because only those who are ordained, or who have the ability to be ordained (i.e., males), are allowed to enter into the presbyterium (sanctuary). Moreover, only a priest or a bishop may enter into the sanctuary through the Royal Doors. Non-ordained males are not permitted to enter beyond the iconostasis without the permission of the priest. The presbyterium is the holy of holies and so only those who can officiate as ministers of the Church by right may enter into the sanctuary.
