9 August I graduated from Basic Training

and on 12 August i proceeded to my next assignment which is Technical School in Port Hueneme Navy Base in Oxnard California

15 November i graduated from Tech School

and on 7 December i proceeded to my 1st duty station which is Altus Air Force BAse Oklahoma

on 1 October 2003 Citezenship became free for members of the Armed Forces

I applied

and now
I AM A UNITED STATES CITIZEN[/quote]

Does anyone else find it odd that people can serve in the army but not be US citizens?

This could solve our whole illegal immigration problem -- automatic citizenship for four years of service ...

With the added bonus of them being released into the workforce much more educated than they arrived.

no actually if you enlist after 9/11/01 you can apply for your citizenship right away.

In theory it would still work out. Sure there are those who can't complete basic, and the few who get released before their contract is up, but for the most part it would work, right? I mean, the application is just the start of the process, citizenship isn't granted right then and there.

Or am I missing the point? :idontknow:

you are right. it's not like you're gonna apply for your citizenship as soon as you sign on that dotted line. you still have to go through Basic Military Training and Technical School/MOS school.

In Canada, you have to be a citizen before you can join the military, not so in the US. I just passed my one year mark as a permanent resident of Canada. I don't get to apply for citizenship for another year and a half.
