Didacus
^ At least they took a concrete first step. And, though it may seem a little strange to say, there are bigger problems to consider in China than this. Better to take them as allies against the communist party than to critize them for their choice.
jezic
i am not criticizing, only saying that the majority are protestants. It is a fact. Catholics need to do more and send people over there like crazy. It is dangerous as heck, but it should remind us a lot of the early church with the pagan Romans in charge. prayer is also a major component to help them overcome this barrier. Didacus
^ Agreed, but how much ressource to we have? Vocations to the preisthood and others are dropping, the number of catholics are increasing, not too many volunteers stepping up to get their hands dirty (including myself I admit). What about Africa who has its share of colossal troubles, heresy in Europe and the US is in its own crisi of fatih. Seems the world is a ticking timebomb these days... something, somewhere will have to eventually give. The world my children will inherit will be far far far deifferent than my own, and that is not necessarily for the better... and this is a hauntingly scary thought for me. Old_Joe
We should do for China what France did for England after Henry VIII seceded England from the Church. They were sending missionary priests across the channel to serve the needs of Catholics who were being persecuted and forced underground (in some cases literally). A lot of these priests understood that they would not make it back alive. We need to do this for the Chinese especially since they will become an even greater global power than they are now within the next 50 years. Didacus
I agree this would be nice. But how realistic is it considering the needs of others and the few ressources to fulfi these needs. The force China will be in 50 years? The momemtum that China has at the moment is darn right near irreversable. All of the US, in the whole and on its own, would not suceed in stopping China. It is ALREADY a force to reckon with, so much so that it cannot reckon with itself (China has been desperately trying to slow down its economy for the last 18 months - without success). Russia, Pakistan, Japan, India, Venezuela are just some of the nations lining up to become best-friends with China... The world power is not just shifting, it has already shifted a great deal. Since 1945, its been an american run world... look back at what former US goverments have done, the wars, the propaganda, the social unbalance of wealth... Think china will do better or worse? Brace yourselves for a brave new world my friends... it ain't going to be pretty, and ain't no one gonna stop it.
jezic
yes that is true. But it is not our task to solve the problems of the world. Christ has that done already. Rather listen to him. Part of the whole thing might be that there won't be enough priests.... we will have to deal. Vocations are not dropping so much anymore. it is not like the 70's but it is healthy enough compared to what it was. Africa is spitting out priests like crazy along with the Koreans, Indians (actual Indians), Philippines, and Vietnam (where it is also illegal to not belong to the state church). Didacus
Yes, Africa is 'spitting out priests', though I might have chosen a different wording... ewww And yes, the situation is not hopeless... And yes God has His divine plan.. in this I trust, in this I have faith. But I see the clouds, and they are so dark.... I can't help but cringe... I can see the papacy declaring a rightcheous war within my lifetime...it will have no choice, because the ongoing onslaugth of attacks that it has endurred in the past 100 years can only turn into violence eventually.... and there will be plenty to go around... jezic
blessed are those that are persecuted and yes some bad stuff is coming. We have known that for a long time, how much are you doing to prepare?
Didacus
Quickly trying to clear my debts. Moved my family (just two weeks ago) in a low population area. Doing my best to teach my children faith, strenght, and the difference between defending one's self and being the attacker. Trying to make my household as self-sufficient as possible - be making a greenhouse in my backyard next year, will be getting electrical panels, will be getting a wood stove. Trying not to 'stop living', taking in each moment as best as possible, and for my familie's sake as well. And if those things sound a little silly, check out what's been going on in Argentina in the last year or two. i seen pictures of mobs ripping cattle apart with their bare hands. few realize just how fragile the North American society really is. It is dangerously fragile.
jezic
sadly that is true and yet most do not know. I wonder how many people are following the dicussion, but hidden from the eyes of many

picchick
I have a few things to say on the matter. First off I agree with Didacus. Better protestant than aethist OR worse yet part of the communism. Secondly I disagree with Didacus. I really don't see a shortage of Vocations. Take a look at the Dominicans in Nashville. Look at the Dioceses of Lincoln and Rockford. They are pumping out priests and seminarians every year. We must pray that God will send us more but we are not in any Vocation Crisis. We must pray that young men and women and even boys and girls will be taught and brought up in the faith and have hearts soft enough and untouched by society to be able to hear God's Call. As His faithful, we who are called to the married life must bring up children who will be able to hear His call and we must not restrict them or discourage them in any way. Lastly, I agree with Didacus. I look at the Future that we are preparing for our children and I shutter. We are constantly trying to get the earth cleaner for future generations but we forget the t.v. shows and the songs and the violence. The world is not ready for future generations. I am afraid for my children if God grants me a husband and children as they will have to grow up in a world worse than mine. Meg

My vocation is just that... raise my children, open their eyes to the faith, teach them to draw their strenght from their faith since it is the only source of true strenght... a strenght that will never fail you regardless... There's will be a burden, a great and terrible burden... Our fate will be of a generation remembered for having destroyed the world after profitting to the best of their gluttony whatever they could obtain from it. *sakes head*... sad... very sad... the bible did say the sins of the father will be carried by the son...
