picchick
Modesty's great, but this all may just be part of the fashion cycle. About 10-12 years ago, at the height of the grunge era, I remember reading an article about how the hip-hop look with halter-tops etc. was out, and more modest clothes were popular with girls, who didn't want to wear revealing styles. At this time, I remember baggy flannel and jeans was popular with girls as well as boys - modest perhaps, but hardly attractive! Of course, shortly after that, revealing styles came back with a vengence after "grunge" died out. Personally, I think a lady should dress attractively but not immodestly. Clothes should accentuate her feminine beauty without putting it all on display for the world (which says to us, "look at my - I'm advertising it for the whole world!" - hardly a chaste statement). On the other hand, there is no need for a slovenly, raggy-baggy, unnattractive look to be modest.
I agree. I wear fitted clothing but nothing that is skin tight or form fitting. It shows off that I am a girl but does not show every curve.
philothea
I discovered that even non-religious love-to-stare-at-the-girls bachelors don't like immodest clothes much. Walking in the city with my husband and his friend, we wound up behind a nice looking girl with short-shorts and something blazoned across her butt. Friend (who is as described above) just rolled his eyes and said "Some looks just do NOT work." I was suprised. I think a lot of girls dress to intimidate other girls, or to fit in to a clique, and it doesn't have a lot to do with guys anyway. Oh, and on the swim shorts thing, Title Nine Sports has several different "board short" styles.
Sarah_JC
Modest girls are hot! (does this even make any sense?)
It does in the summer.
Cam42
WOW! That is exactly what my boyfriend said. He said that my modesty with my shirts left more to the imagination in contrast to those who "strut their stuff" for the world to see. He said that my modesty and innocence is what attracted him to me. I am glad. Meg
I totally agree with your boyfriend...not that I have ever seen, you, though....but that modesty is more attractive. Snowcatpa
I think what makes modesty so appealing is the same reason that virgins are more appealing. You do, like you were all saying, respect people more who leave a little more to the imagination, and who have the dignity to carry themselves well and not just be used, whether that's being looked at in immodest clothes or sexually as a loose person. There was an article I read a bit back about how being a virgin nowadays is like the "rebel" thing to do...hehehe.... funny how everything works in these cycles
Matty_boy
are we talking about modesty or homeliness? I think modesty without homeliness is very attractive. There are some really great modest looks (and mouses) that are stylish too. (Geez, I sound like a fashion consultant.) :shootme:
sweetpea316
I believe its just aimed at modesty in general... But I agree... you can dress modestly and still be cute and fashionable without looking frumpy or whatever.
Cam42
There are many beautiful people, who are modest in dress. A great example, Johnnette Benkovic, host of EWTN's The Abundant Life
