Sorry to hear that Free Soul has decided to leave, but she is freely making that choice. No one, to my knowlege, has ever asked her to leave--unlike perhaps you and hyper, Good Friday, who've endured some pretty targetted attacks and still come back, smiling and forgiving.

I don't honestly know, but I'm told that there is one. I think there's a rule against them because they've been used by some who will remain nameless as personal attacks against others, and as ways to perpetuate a debate that no one is agreeing on anyway.

Actually, she was -- much to my surprise -- asked to stay by some very unlikely people. If she was ever told that she should just leave, and I seem to recall that she was, perhaps by me, then it was a very long time ago. And I acknowledge that her decision to leave is her decision.

But my point was that perhaps had more compassion been shown by some here (not you, Anna) she might not have felt compelled to leave. Or, simply, perhaps if some had not driven the homosexuality debate into the ground for the gazillionth time, she would not have been compelled to leave. Ultimately, leaving is her decision, but we need to look at why she made that decision since others like her have made that decision in the past as well. We are losing people that we could be evangelizing, and we need to always be looking at why so we can do something about it. That was my point.

FreeSoul has said that she experiences same-sex attractions, as do Hyper and I. No doubt she was compelled to leave by one or two who are sometimes more right-wing than they are Catholic. Their hurtful remarks and their insistence on perpetuating such hurtful remarks are hurtful to all who experience SSAs, even those who are chaste. They have hurt me, and I feel that one of the people here is spending more time on admonishing homosexual sinners than he is spending admonishing other sinners. I don't think that's necessary, and I don't think it's necessary to publicly admonish anyone over and over and over again... and maybe not at all.

But I'll admit that this is a problem with a select few people here, and that it's not really a good reason to leave Phatmass or the Church. But sometimes those of us who do have this cross to carry find their insistence on adding weight to our cross very offensive, and that's why we leave. Or at least that's why I've temporarily left in the past, I can't speak for others.
