Best investment I ever made. Many people were very generous for my ordination and so, since I do not often have enough to do something like this, I decided to get an Apple Powerbook. This will help me in my last year to do papers and such, and now I can finally take notes like the rest...no more of this paper and pen stuff. ;)

Highly recommended!

I am a long-time Windows user and started to really get annoyed with all the problems I had and the lack of knowledgable tech support or having to pay everytime I wanted something resolved.

I actually have a Gateway Media Center. From day one it gave me problems because gateway gave me software that was incompatible with media center 2004. That notwithstanding, the sound would frequently pop if I used headphones until one day the sound died. I sent it away, and they "fixed" it. I put headphones in again, they said it was not the sound card but the speakers if I sent it back they would be happy to fix those for 85 more dollars since I was out of the warranty. A warranty that expired two days before this issue occurred. I fought with gateway, talked to a clearly drunk media center tech support guy, who was recommending me to thegreenbutton.com Needless to say, it was a mess.

It was at that time that I swore off any big corporate name, especially those that support M$ I then started to see what Apple had to offer since I am very pleased with my ipod. Turns out we wound up buying my brother an apple for his graduation. I liked it, played with it, and realized that I wanted something like this. Besides, I love my itunes. So, when I was given money for my ordination, I decided I might buy a new computer. I searched for other media centers, but the reviews were bad for many of them, and those that were highly rated were also almost 2500 to 3000 dollars. So, I decided on an apple.

I have just finished upgrading it to Tiger and transferring the files from my media center pc to this little laptop, and I had no problems whatsoever. These things are little workhorses and I am quite pleased with my purchase.

The only disadavantage will be that I will not be up on the latest things for windows, which the seminary appreciates since I fix their computers often. However, I will still be using my media center as a pvr and prolly storage, so I will still be plugged in partially.

Anyway, I am glad that I bought this and hope that it works a little better than my gateway. BTW, gateway used to be a great company until they merged with emachines. After that happened, they became a really horrible company. I never recommend them nor Compaq. Although, admittedly, since HP bought them out their quality has somewhat improved. However, that is not saying much since HP was not the best of companies to begin with.

Just my .02

BTW, this is my first post with my new comp :)

God Bless

lol. yeah, computers are a hassle. my dad swears if he could develop an entirely independent software that was compatible and reliable, he'd just make his own computers. as it is, all the computers in our house are sort of half of whatever brand name they are, and half of my dad's own constructing to "make them better"

however, he swears against macs for some reason. he often refers to them as "Mac n' Trash" and no one in my family is allowed near them

lol, fides. i love your dad... among many other things, you can really dig into the guts of a PC and do much much more with one. macs are made to be easy to use, so you simply can't do as much with them. they're like dumbed-down computers. they are popular in media circles, though companies are now realizing ppl like to use PCs, so most of the software is available for both, and some now even only for PC.
there are also many more viruses for PCs, but whatever... i actually own a Dell, and i've never had a problem with it. we've gone through a few Dell desktops as well, and again, never a prob, except for them going outdated eventually. i have also used IBMs, and Compaqs, and def like Dell the best. to each his own, but i don't plan on ever ever getting a mac...:|

I was brought up in my house hold on macs, but once my dad started working at comcast, we went pc and have ever since. I've had a few laptops (3 I think and I only completely broke one of them...) and it's either been a compaq or IBM. They were all used lappys too... and my dad built his little super computer and then he built his own computer for his bad stuff  and some other businessy stuff. I do miss the macs though... I just recently got to use some last semester... I miss em'

My brother bought a compaq because they are supposedly better then other companies out there. *shrug* He thinks Macs aren't good because they aren't as versatile or whatever. Why is it that compaqs aren't good? Just wondering.

I honestly hate Windows XP, it's really well annoying, and doesn't work half the time. When I go off to college and buy a labtop I am not buying a Mircrosoft one, I'll go Apple or something!
