MissScripture
Credit cards can be dangerous ...especially when they're part of your parents account ... and the credit limit is $1,800 ...and you're in London ...with a group of shopaholics. moral: BE CAREFUL!!!! dUSt
Me and my wife maxed out all our credit cards before we got married, and regret it now. It's very easy to get carried away, especially with 0% interest deals, etc. Now, I'm happy to say we are down to one credit card--a very big balance--but one card left. As soon as we get it paid off, we'll keep one card for emergencies/rental cars , but definitely mantain a $0 balance on it. My advice? Make small purchases with it and pay it off every month. It'll build up your credit history. Never run up the balance to a point where you can only afford the minimum payment. In fact, the phatmass $5/month plan would be a great way to establish a consistent credit history! Not only does phatmass help you spiritually, it also helps you secure a positive financial future! jgirl
My credit car has a whopping $600 maximum, so I can't do too much damage. I pay it off every month. As long as you do that, you build up the credit!

[/quote] Ditto. We are down to one card, $1300 left on it (amazon.com credit card) and are working hard to pay it off. Unfortunately it is so high because we did have to use it for an emergancy and pay for a hotel for three days.
homeschoolmom
Zero balance... that's the key.
kateri05
as long as you are responbile with it and pay off your balance every month you should be fine. obviously, emergencies come up, but for the most part, you should never buy anything that you couldn't pay the whole amount for right then and there (or by the time your credit card bill is due if your church is lame and you only get paid at the end of the month! )
Dreamweaver
Am I the only person who hasn't had problems running up a debt? Of course, I only have 1 credit card, and one check/debit/ATM card. Again, I'll repeat what everyone else says, just because you have a credit card doesn't mean you can go on a shopping spree and not have to pay it off. As long as you remember to pay your balance monthly, you'll be fine. Credit cards are also awesome for paying bills online. You save on envelope/stamps, and build up credit while doing it. Writing "See ID" in the signature spot is kind of iffy. My boyfriend does it, and hasn't been hassled by clerks. Maybe you could sign it and write "See ID"?
