A&E doctors are calling for a ban on long pointed kitchen knives to reduce deaths from stabbing.
I guess soon we'll have ESPN lawyers arguing for doing away with self-representation in court and Bravo! Civil Engineers arguing for banning all automobiles.
i think all household equipment should be banned - washing machines, hoovers, pencils and dusters-get rid of it all
Pencils! Why didn't I think of pencils?? You are absolutely right...they are such a hazard! Down with pencils!

I think you mean "cricket bats". There aren't too many baseball bats in Britain to ban. I think they should also require black-belts to carry licenses for their hands and feet as "deadly weapons". And sharp rocks should be banned too. And water. Imagine all the drownings that would be prevented!

Noel's angel

beaver dam, i don't want to have to get a license for my hands and feet :( :(

pencils are deadly-i still have a piece of carbon in my hand from that accident.....

there are a good number of baseball bats in NI-we just use them to beat other people up, not for playing baseball.... (i don't obviously)

::ponders how feet can be used as deadly weapons::

::removes socks, sticks foot out, and looks to see if anyone has dropped dead::

My favorite irony -

You must be 18 to buy an over-priced, stainless steel, USELESS wallhanger sword in California. However, a four year old can buy a machete, made of real steel, and properly sharpened, for 10 bucks. Why? A sword (even one of stainless steel) is a "weapon" but a machete is a "gardening tool."

Not that I mind. I think it's perfectly acceptable for four year olds to buy machetes...

We just need to ban people.

People are the number one cause of murder worldwide. Everything there is a murder, it is always because of people.

If there were no people allowed, then we would not have the murders that we do have. Think of all the money we could save if there were no people. We wouldn't need anything.

These and many other reaons why we need a people ban if we want to survive.

Well the US is working on that. How much longer before mandatory abortions?

I read an article recently about the increase of violent crime in Britain. It noted that baseball bats sell well there, though hardly anyone there plays baseball!

I think bashing a skull in with a cricket bat would be cooler. As evidence, I cite "Shaun of the Dead"

Seriously, though, this shows the logical direction of the whole "gun control" mentality.

Rather than live as free citizens, men are treated as children by an all-powerful nanny-state. Sad.

If you read it, they aren't trying to ban all kitchen knives, but only those with pointed ends. The chefs they talked to for the article said they didn't need the knives, they could use shorter blades, which are less likely to be able to kill with, for the same tasks. It is like the US banning parts of cars, not the car itself.
