franciscanheart
I don't wanna grow up.... I realized a couple of weeks ago in Mass how much I miss being a kid. I miss getting so excited when our deacon would do the "10 o'clock shuffle" because we had so many people standing at the 10 am Mass (which was obviously the most popular). I used to get so excited and like shove my parents or whoever it was next to me down the pew. I would skwirm around until I saw that everyone was being still. I miss riding in the baskets at stores and taking naps on the floor in the living room. I miss riding around in those little cars they have for kids. I miss spilling something all over myself and people thinking it was cute!! anyway.... who else misses being a kid?? (i am glad to be growing and maturing but i like to think about those things that were so much fun as a kid)
Guest Eremite
We used to make these cool castles in our rooms out of bed sheets. Each person had their own separate quarters. Yah, that was the good life.
Thy Geekdom Come
I miss stress-free days at the playground next to my park. I miss staying up past my bedtime...can't do that anymore...I don't have one! I miss being able to imagine that a cardboard box was anything I wanted it to be. I miss thinking that I could fly. I miss all the chances I had to make friends, and all the opportunities I dodged because I didn't consider myself good enough. I miss gorging on freshly baked cookies. I miss mixing the eggshells in with the batter. I miss sleepovers at grandma's house. Yet, with all that...I know that by being a grown-up, or at least a big kid, I'll be able to provide that childhood to my own children...and I can't wait to be the one who takes them to the park, lets them stay up late, gives them cardboard boxes, holds them up in the sky, encourages them to have friends and arranges playdates, bakes the cookies, picks out the eggshells, and drops them off for weekends with the grandparents while my wife and I go out for some time alone. Lil Red
and i find nothing de-stresses me more than going to the playground and playing on the swings. actually, i find that when i'm stressed, the better doing "child-like" things is for me... sweetpea316
I couldn't agree more! Man...life is good when you were a kid, and you don't even realize it. Well, I like growing up, but you've gotta have your child-like moment also to keep you sane.
Didacus
I miss riding a bicycle. I miss having time enough to go skating when I wanted to and until dark with nothing else to do. I miss telling my mother I loved her - didn't do enough of that when I was younger. I miss my dad's pipe. I miss my innocence of not knowing, and the thrill of learning things when learning was easy, natural and fun - not when it had to be done because it put food on the table. I miss hitting rocks with any old stick I found. I miss clinging to my mother's dress whenever she spoke to someone I didn't know. I miss having nothing to do but think of interesting things to do. I miss the saturday morning cartoons - they just aren't the same anymore. I miss playing at the arcade so much I could beat the high score of my choice. Ya, I miss a lot of things. Think that those things we miss we will find again within God? Boy, I sure hope so... I sure do.
franciscanheart
the swings are the best thing at the playground. i definitely still go to the swings only usually now its really late in the evening when most kids are at home eating dinner with their families or getting baths before bedtime. i love naps on the floor in the sun. its so warm and soothing. i know why cats do what they do. KizlarAgha
I feel the same way, but sometimes I think that my desires to go back to childhood stem from two place - the lack of a childhood in the first place, and some kind of maternal instinct that is clicking itself on. Complicated...
