Girls: What communities have you contacted?

I don't know if this quesiton has already been asked before. If it has, sorry and point me to the topic. And if not...post away. What communities of sisters have you contacted? I'm looking mostly for the good communities(as in the ones who wear the habit, etc), but you can also give me some of the ones who don't so I can watch out for them.

God bless,
Sarah

I've only really contacted cloistered orders... I do know a friend of mine who bacame a Sister of Charity in Baltic, Connecticut. They are a good order with a full habit and they have a teaching and nursing home apostolate(the nursing home is in Wisconsin).

But communities I have contacted:
Dominican Contemplative Sisters at the Monastery of the Heart of Jesus in Lockport, Louisiana
Poor Clare Colettines at Corpus Christi Monastery in Rockford, Illinois
Passionist Nuns (I forget where in Kentuky they were, but I just e-mail them every once in a while...)

See, when I first started discerning, I was pretty ignorant when it came to clositered and contemplative and active, etc. I didn't really know that there were differences and I just dove head first into searching for communities. To be honest, I was pretty disappointed when I first started contacting different communities. I couldn't believe how many were so liberal when it came to Church matters, how many didn't wear the habit, etc. I can imagine ever wanting to join or being called to join a community that doesn't wear the habit.

But anyway....I've contacted a lot of communities in the last few years, but here are some of my favorites.

Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters The first community I ever contacted. :)

Carmelites-Terre Haute I LOVE the Carmelites.

The Order of the Sacred And Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary Just found this community, and I've sent for info but haven't recieved it yet. But they seem pretty awesome.

Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist I'm pretty sure I'm called to be a contemplative, but if not, this community is awesome.

Cistercian Nuns Prairie du Sac WI Really attracted to their way of life....but not sure if I'm called there. But they're awesome anyway.

Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ Love their apostolate. :)

Anyway....those are just my favorites.

Sarah, have mentioned that you are attracted to contemplative life. Have you heard of the Dominican Nuns of Summit, NJ. They live a traditional monastic life with perpetual adoration and rosary.

My spiritual director recently told me about the Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth. They are a new, community that is contemplative with an active apostolate. Their web is

God bless you!

I contacted the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word (which is where I will enter when it's God's time).

Back in Steubenville, the Daughters of St. Paul sent me all kinds of stuff, and I was on the list for the Carmelites of the Divine Heart of Jesus in St. Louis (because my friend was in there for a while, so it was a good way to get updates and pictures). Now I am just on Nashville's mailing list because I had a freak encounter with two of the nuns in Normal the next day after I had been on retreat with the Martyrs.

I've also worked with the Missionaries of Charity since I was 17, yet I have never had the slightest attraction to that order. I'm moving back home, and I'm going to continue to do youth ministry with the MCs on a more regular basis like I did in high school.

I've looked at the website for the Dominican Nuns before, but I never contacted them, although they seem cool.

And I've wanted to contact the Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth for a few months now but I haven't gotten around to it. They seem pretty awesome. :D

Yup- I'm really hoping that I won't have too much work and I can go. I really wanted to go this May, but I get back from 4 months in Scotland the day it starts. I'm hoping I don't have too much work next May, so I can go. I can't wait to meet you too! and you'll be all cute in your postulant uniform!

You knew Carrie too?! I knew her from Onerock, she was sooo cool! How is she doing with the Sister Servants?

Sr. Mary Faustina! I know her! She's a beautiful soul, and I miss her tons, but she is soooo happy ^_^

I've contacted a bunch of orders, but the main ones were

Sisters Minor of Mary Immaculate

Sister Servants of the Eternal Word

Benedictines (Solemes congregation) in Vermont (even if you aren't interested in the Benedictine spirituality, write to them! The vocation directress is an AMAZING person with incredible insight into the spiritual life and cloistered vocation)

Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate

Discalced Carmelites (where I hope to enter very soon, God willing!)

I've been in contact with mainly Contemplative Orders, although I do correspond frequently with the Franciscan Sisters of the Martyr St. George. I've been mainly corresponding with the Wisconsin Cistercians, but I have also spoken with the Louisiana Dominicans.

That's where I know her from. :D

Which Discalced Carmelites community are you entering? If my vocation is to be a nun, that's where I want to be. Carmel or Bust. ;)
