Nicole8223
I taught myself, but I was blessed to have a lot of friends who play. The best way for me to learn was to play along with them. They wouldn't slow down or anything, and it forced me to keep up and learn the transitions. Do you have any friends who you could play along with? Noel's angel
it's a great stress reliever-if you have come home from a bad day, you can just take it out and strum away. I usually spend most of my day in my room playing music
Amen to that! especially playing praise/worship music for me....God has used to it set me free from many a temptation and hard times. music has an amazing power, but combined with beautiful songs to our Lord...wow!! i had my practice tonight for youth group. went pretty well when we were actually practicing! hehe. it is such a joy to play the guitar! Milesmania
I just got a guitar this Christmas, and I've learned it pretty quickly. I just asked friends that taught themselves for songs that were easy to play. And just practiced over and over switching from chord to chord, now I can switch from almost any of the major chords easily. And am getting fairly good at bar chords too. Also a big help in getting fundamentals down I went to a free beginner guitar lesson online at http://guitar.about.com/library/blguitarle...=guitar+lessons. That taught me to strum like a champ. And to be able to keep a strum pattern while singing, which was the hardest for me to learn. But singing and playing is the funnest part, especially praise and worship music. I still have a ton to learn, but now I can jam with my friends, which is awesome! Matthew Buchanan
Been playin' awhile myself. Still don't know what I'm doin' though. Mostly by ear. I've got three here now. If you want a guitar that plays like a $2000.00 guitar, but ya don't have that kind of money, try the Washburn WD32S. I normally don't like much about Washburns, but this particular model is sooooooo sweet. I've never passed it to another player who didn't fall in love with it. It has problems in the winter if you don't use a soundhole humidifier. The top will contract from lack of humidity, as many thin solid wood guitars will do this. Keep a hygrometer handy (measures humidity). if the humidity drops below 45% then you should use a humidifier then. You can pick one of the WD32S's for about $369 new, and you will forever be in love with it. I haven't played a Martin or Taylor yet that could squash it. Another guitar company that is often overlooked for the guitarist on a budget is Godin guitars out of Canada. Their line of Seagulls are some really fine guitars for the price. Try to take the S6 + spruce for a ride. Mine plays like a dream. Now for those who would down ovations. Shame on you. If you are going to plug in, they are some of the best guitars to fly with. I have a Celebrity super shallow, that plays like no other. It plays practically effortlessly. Not to loud unplugged for those "late night" jam sessions. Stays in tune longer than any guitar I have ever seen or played. Great giggin' guitar for sure, with tuner on board. It's all preference, and also how you set the neck up. Different playing styles require different actions and levels of neck adjustment. A good neck adjustment is usually the prob. with stiff tuff to play guitars. Some of them just stink. My personal opinion is that if you even think you might keep on playin', then buy a decent guitar upfront. It will be more of a joy to play ( often easier) and you can always sell it if you decide to quit.
