Jaime
I understand that. I always, always, always forget that most people who pick up the guitar have no intention of playing professionally. I got my minor in guitar (which was actually harder than my Theology major) and it gave me the excuse to practice five hours a day. Seriously though (and I still do this with difficult pieces) If the transition sounds choppy or off beat, slow it down!!! The reality is, if you play it correctly even once, your brain knows it and remembers it. (That's what my teachers always told me)

Jaime
all the better! I play my dad's guitar at the moment, I love it. I'm trying to find a picture of it-it has the really cool design with the birds and all on it on the scratch plate. David McWilliams played it on TV....
Your dad has a Gibson hummingbird????? That is the last guitar that I want to collect (guitar collectors who read that line will see the humor in it) I LOVE THE HUMMINGBIRD!! Man I want one. Jaime
The original Hummingbirds rule. The reissues that came out in the 80s are not even comparable. My guess is your dad has one from the 60s or 70s. (soooo sweeeeet) Taylors are well built guitars but the tops have a tendency to be shaved too thin. That causes a lot of problems if you live in a northern climate. I have a Santa Fe Takamine for performing live. This is pretty close to how mine looks except I have more turquoise inlay My pride and joy is I have one of the first Olsons built. (Let's see if anyone recognizes that brand)
RemnantRules
Nice Martin. Ok well I've been playing for about 1 and half now and I think I'm decent. I can play a ton of Switchfoot, Jason Mraz, Remnant, all acoustic. I'm thinking about venturing into Electric with Relient K and stuff like that HOWEVER I want to get a freakin better guitar. My dream would be a taylor but eh we'll see. "Never known how long I've waited, anticipated your smile to be pressed against mine." Dudette
I would first suggest getting a guitar Miriam. It is said that the guitar is an easy instrument to learn but a difficult one to master. I couldn't agree more. From a teacher's perspective, I would always suggest lesson especially at the beginning. Its really really easy to pick up bad habits that will hold you back as you want to get better. But if you aren't gonna get lessons heres a couple of hints. Use your fingertips for forming all first postion chords (which is all chords you learn first starting out) SLOOOOOOOOWWWW AND SMOOOOOOOTH I never care how slow a student plays a song as long as it is consistent. You can always speed things up but one thing is always true Fast and carpy is still carpy.
um, well, I need a new piano first, those are much more expensive then guitars

Scofizzle
Praise and worship music is grerat to learn with......not only are they easy to play but you can glorify God while doing and I find it helps with the frustration too.... This is my electric but its a faded cherry starburst color.....its kinda sweet and I changed out all the hardware..... and I cant find a pic of my acoustic
Alpha Centauri
If you're going to get an acoustic, get an Ovation. If you're looking for an electric, get a Gibson Les Paul. Yeah.
