Reese. Thoughts?
Guest Eremite
He was all over the media during the interregnum. I also saw him on History channel. To make a long story short: be glad he's gone.
Antonius
He's gone, but someone will take his place and he will go somewhere to teach heterodoxy and dissent. America will still beAmerica after he's gone, won't it? Our Lady Exterminatrix of Heresies, pray for us.
Thy Geekdom Come
When contacted yesterday, Reese said only that his tenure ends June 1 and that he would move immediately to California and continue in his Jesuit ministry.
Move to California? Sounds appropriate...

EcceNovaFacioOmni
Maybe the infamous Fr. McBrien quoted in that article will be next...
thessalonian
This paragraph caught my eye from the second article. Stephen Pope, a moral theologian at Boston College who wrote the article critical of the church's position on gay marriage, said of the dismissal: "If this is true, it's going to make Catholic theologians who want to ask critical questions not want to publish in Catholic journals. It can have a chilling effect." Chilling? Hopefully the context is chilling because he's worried about his job. I'm actually feeling warm all over right about now. I see they quoted Fr. McBrien in the Article who basically was saying that the dear mans articles were mild with regard to Church teaching. I hope the reference point is compared to his implying that he may well be next to go. PRAY that it happens. thessalonian
Here is his picture and an article on Catholic.org. http://www.catholic.org/cathcom/national_story.php?id=14381 I saw this guy around the time of the conclave somewhere on network TV. It took all of about 20 seconds to see why the networks had him on and that he was not a real friend of the Papacy. Looking online at some of his writings he seems to have a certain grudge against rome as well. Hopefully some more housecleaning of those like him is in order. Ash Wednesday
Well, when I read about the NCR(eporter) folks squealing with anger about this, then I figured it was good news. "oh, great. It's Ratzinger. Might as well save him the trouble and step down myself..."
MilesChristi
I saw this guy around the time of the conclave somewhere on network TV.
Yeah, he was all over the news networks during the interregnum. Usually there'd be two priests on at one time - a good, loyal priest like Father Neuhaus on one side and Father Reese, SJ on the other. After a few days of coverage, I was getting quite tired of his dissent, half concealed under a slick layer of diplomatic language. I'm glad he's gone. Or am I misunderstanding something?
Ash Wednesday
I don't think you're misunderstanding anything -- Jesuits used to be the biggest defenders of the true faith, now it seems to be, with a few exceptions, quite the opposite.
